“The Justice Department is expected to oust the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives”
How does the Justice department “oust” a guy who works at the Treasury dept? ATF is treasury.
Not so. Look at the DOJ website. Though, on another vein, I do wonder why the Dept of Education search warrant story disappeared.
Under G W Bush, in addition to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the new antiterrorism law shifted ATF from the Department of the Treasury to the Department of Justice. The agency’s name was changed to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
In 1920s prohibition, the Bureau was part of the Internal Revenue (revenoors!) to stop illegal trade in booze, and they added tobaccor and firearms to it... all revenue related for the laws of the day.
So ATF was part of Treasury then not, then placed back in Treasury in 1972 and then taken out in 2002. Each time for reasons of expedience, and always in regard to revenue or crimes involving illegal revenue/trade/activity in any of the areas of concern(alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and now explosives ATFE) which from a jurisdictional point of view can be more easily run from DOJ. (For example, are Freepers aware it is a federal crime to make your own distilled spirits— that is ethanol at home- not talking wine or beer. Talking ANY quantity of distilled spirits, corn liquor— and this stems from the Whiskey Rebellion)
The Treasury dept is now a wholly run component of the private Federal Reserve Bank (sarcasm ON). And yet, the Secret Service is still under Treasury, and investigates counterfeit money— go figure.
The BATFags WERE treasury as tax collectors, now under DoJ after USA-PATRIOT Act.
