Background? That he’s unhappy with the process by which the hierarchy handled accusations against him is apparent, though no mention was made of the accusations themselves.

Father Corapi owns "Santa Cruz Media", a company that produces and distributes Catholic media. (He was free to have his own private company as part of the avenue of service he chose.)

Here is what is on the website (FatherCorapi.com) about the original allegations:

Father Corapi's Statement Regarding Allegations

"On Ash Wednesday I learned that a former employee sent a three-page letter to several bishops accusing me of everything from drug addiction to multiple sexual exploits with her and several other adult women. There seems to no longer be the need for a complaint to be deemed “credible” in order for Church authorities to pull the trigger on the Church’s procedure, which was in recent years crafted to respond to cases of the sexual abuse of minors. I am not accused of that, but it seems, once again, that they now don’t have to deem the complaint to be credible or not, and it is being applied broadly to respond to all complaints. I have been placed on “administrative leave” as the result of this.

"I’ll certainly cooperate with the process, but personally believe that it is seriously flawed, and is tantamount to treating the priest as guilty “just in case”, then through the process determining if he is innocent. The resultant damage to the accused is immediate, irreparable, and serious, especially for someone like myself, since I am so well known. I am not alone in this assessment, as multiple canon lawyers and civil and criminal attorneys have stated publicly that the procedure does grave damage to the accused from the outset, regardless of rhetoric denying this, and has little regard for any form of meaningful due process.

"All of the allegations in the complaint are false, and I ask you to pray for all concerned."

Thanks for the information; I had only found what was written briefly in another page related to the link after commenting here. I have to say, not knowing anything prior, that in his story there, his statement here, and what you’ve just posted, there are several red flags immediately up. I wish him well with his new endeavor in any case.

Wow, this is truly sad. Don't know much about the man but from what I've read on this thread he sounds like a good, kind, compassionate Priest. Even so far as willing to blindly forgive his accusers. That there is a stand-up man of faith.

At the end of the day, the tragedy is going to be that the Catholic Church is going to lose what is by all accounts a fine, decent man and wonderful Priest. That the Church would so willingly and blindly throw this good man out knowing there's a terrible shortage of good Priests and Church Leadership just makes this worse.

The Church has known full well for years now that there are fewer men entering the Priesthood than there are leaving it. One would think they'd do their level best to keep the good ones rather than showing them the door.

Thanks for posting the accusations.

I was reading a thread about the same issue in the Religion forum, and did not see them mentioned

I did not read the whole thread over there because I wanted to see the responses to the article with out the censorship of a caucus thread so I came to this one.

A very sad situation.

It is very similar to the dems mantra that it doesn't matter if the accusations are true or not, it's the severity of the charges.

And act out of ignorance of the truth and in the process destroy someone in a very unfair manner.

It is saddening to see the Catholic church use the same tactics to tar a feather someone who is apparently innocent and has no chance in that strict one sided venue to state their case.

He seems to have made the right choice in his responses imo.
