MAHER: He was not hunting, Anderson. There’s a difference between hunting which, I’m not a big fan of either, and when you go out into this controlled situation where they — I forget what they do to the birds but they do something where they can’t fly. It’s the equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel. And yes, look it up. That’s what he did. He shot and killed an incredible number of birds for absolutely no reason than a blood lust.

I know zip about hunting. What is stocking? I mean I know the normal definition, as in stocking shelves etc., but does this mean they are caged and then let go right before someone shoots them? If so, doesn't sound like much hunting to me.

Stocked means the birds were raised in flight pens and put out to hunt. Very much like a pond is stocked with fish for better fishing.

I think Maher is psychotic for thinking that someone who hunts is psychotic. Hunting has been around for a long time and has been fairly popular through out history, especially among those who like to eat food.

Typically upland game birds are raised in flight pens as habitat decreases. These pen raised birds are not tamed. Then they are placed as described in areas where they can be hunted. Here in pa there are efforts to repopulate native habitat with birds caught in the dakotas.
