WASHINGTON Pakistans top military spy agency has arrested some of the Pakistani informants who fed information to the Central Intelligence Agency in the months leading up to the raid that led to the death of Osama bin Laden, according to American officials.
Pakistans detention of five C.I.A. informants, including a Pakistani Army major who officials said copied the license plates of cars visiting Bin Ladens compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in the weeks before the raid, is the latest evidence of the fractured relationship between the United States and Pakistan. It comes at a time when the Obama administration is seeking Pakistans support in brokering an endgame in the war in neighboring Afghanistan.
At a closed briefing last week, members of the Senate Intelligence Committee asked Michael J. Morell, the deputy C.I.A. director, to rate Pakistans cooperation with the United States on counterterrorism operations, on a scale of 1 to 10.
Three, Mr. Morell replied, according to officials familiar with the exchange.
The fate of the C.I.A. informants arrested in Pakistan is unclear, but American officials said that the C.I.A. director, Leon E. Panetta, raised the issue when he travelled to Islamabad last week to meet with Pakistani military and intelligence officers.
Some in Washington see the arrests as illustrative of the disconnect between Pakistani and American priorities at a time when they are supposed to be allies in the fight against Al Qaeda instead of hunting down the support network that allowed Bin Laden to live comfortably for years, the Pakistani authorities are arresting those who assisted in the raid that killed the worlds most wanted man.

Hey Yogi, maybe we shouldn’t have told the entire world all the details of the raid.
The faux-Plame outing was nothing compared to this and heads had better roll.
I expect a full investigation of course!

I’d say the buck stops at the Oval office.
I so agree...too much info divulged to puff up 0’blahblah, not to keep our tropps or informants safe...just to make him seem more potent than he really is!! He’s still trying to out do Bush...it will never happen...so forget it 0’blahblah!! Your couldn’t hold a candle to Bush, without lightin’ yo-self on fire!!
This is hugh and series! News that will surely make the MSM question this administration.../sarc.
Arresting informants in this matter is tantamount to declaring war against all western interests. It is telling western interests in general and US citizens specifically . . . &%$* YOU!
Yes I understand Pakistan has nuclear capabilities and all which that entails. However, I can never remember the United States being held hostage nor having to pay ransom to the USSR during the peak of the cold war.
Enough IS enough!
It seems this administration has painted us into a corner. We are damned if we give Pakistan the $$ we promised, and damned if we don’t. Hooray for the obama foreign policy...what it has wrought for our fate.
Whoops, here’s the earlier one. Thanks Hoodat.
Great turn of phrase.
