The primary elections are where I vote for the candidate closest to my own political view. This past gubernatorial GOP primary, I voted for Debra Medina. In the state-wide race, I put on my big girl underwear and voted for Gov. Perry. All we can do is vote for the best remaining candidate in 2012, then hold their feet to the fire to get done what needs to be done.
Polls right now are nothing but name recognition. Only die hards like us are paying attention. Ask Rudy, Hillary, or Dean, just to name the ones in the past two cycles.
Romney could be a contender, but it isi unlikely. He has never been able to win ove the electorate. Hell, he couldn’t even run for reelection in MA.

Romney’s minions trash Palin because he wants the 2012 nomination after McLain beat him out. Better to have a Barack Obama presidency than to allow Palin to gain credibility as VP.

He will do so once he finishes with a special legislative session in Austin. Meanwhile, Gingrich’s staff defections have freed up two key players from Perry’s political team. Though there is no connection between the two events, Perry will have his brains trust ready the moment he starts to really weigh his options.
The political space exists for a Perry candidacy, and he already has a small-government, 10th Amendment message that will play well among party activists. But Perry needs to be hardheaded about the realities of trying to enter at this point, given that he has no national network. Yes, though the reality is that voters in the second half of the primary schedule get a reduced slate to pragmatically consider.
It's just a wild speculation on my part, based on observations.
Personally, I'm still undecided. I like Cain, but am concerned he has been largely unvetted, politically speaking.

Romney is beginning to scare me to death. I see him as the new McCain, a sell out.
Romney has made too many moves to position himself as a RINO, lately, including defending Romneycare and supporting global warming. Add that to that fact that he is skipping Iowa and another early conservative poll and I think that he is showing definite signs that he is throwing social conservatives under the bus.
I believe that most of this is a direct result of the religious right’s constant harping on Romney’s religion. There are just too many other reasons to oppose a Romney candidacy to waste time criticizing his religion. I’ve been trying to convince people of this since the last election - lay off the Mormon criticism, PLEASE! It just makes social conservatives look like narrow minded kooks.

Sadly, I remember 2008. I was so hissed off because of my lack of choices. McCain? Were they kidding? I only voted for him due to his choice of running mate, Sarah Palin. The GOP really made some serious mistakes in 2008 for which the nation as a whole has been paying for ever since.
There is still a considerable amount of time before final decisions must be made. Let us pray we have better choices than in 2008.

Ture but he does have a 10 year affiliation [ with the GOP Gov. Assoc. which will go a long ways towards helping him in many states. Secondly, both the national Senator group and National Representative group are headed by Texans this year so in some since that may help him within some states.....

I tend to see Perry as a more laid back person without the intense ambition/drive to be President. I just don’t see him wanting the scrutiny and invasion of privacy necessary to seek the job. The 50-50 at best is where I’d put him if that high. He’ll enjoy the immediate attention but not sure he wants the other that goes with it.
As do I. A wife, mother and former governer who does not seek power for power’s sake, but bends her knee and bows her head to The Almighty as His humble servant. THIS is the sort of person needed to take the Oath of Office January 20, 2013.
