Etiquette rules followed by most of corporate America and most of government-employed America, dictate the covering of armpits (if for nothing else than to absorb sweat) for highly formal daytime business events, such as welcoming foreign visitors - 'friends' or not. Other widely-held American etiquette rules pertain to the wearing of panty hose for women and ties for men as well as various rules concerning daytime footwear, acceptable haircolors for a business environment, etc. Michelle wore a nicely designed dress, but, with the sparkly platform heels, the outfit was more appropriate for a garden party or casual cocktail party, not a formal daytime reception. If Michelle means to be seen as a reflection of America, dressing up in princess gowns and strappy shoes to greet a very dynamic business-minded and down-to-earth Merkel isn't quite the message the American people want to project to the world.
Very informative. Thank you.
