A controversial Queens statue, featured as an "Eyesore Next Door" in the Daily News, should be sold through an online classifieds site, according to a group of elected officials.
U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner said the city should ditch the statue, "Triumph of Civic Virtue," because it is "sexist."

The “women” in the statue are Sirens, not mortal females.

I remember his ‘outrage’ over this here. It’s been there longer than he’s been alive, I think. At least it’s figurative art, rather than the abstracted monstrosities civic funds have usually gone to purchase - far more offensive.
With that kinda arched right leg the dude looks gay. Why can’t we just go with that and moveon.
I think he objects to the idea that “vice” and “corruption” should be resisted.
I’ve seen that statue by the courthouse. heh Weiner actually wanted to get rid of it.
I guess the truth hurts.
Or at least loudly protested for freedom of expression and First Amendment protection.
1. Please see your optometrist. The man is standing upon rocks, not the creatures surrounding his feet.
2. Please see your psychiatrist. Those creatures are sirens. Hint: They’re imaginary creatures. Not women.
I can see fine. It is your reading skill that is questionable. I said nothing about the man standing on the women. As for the sirens not being women....Sirens are indeed mythical characters, female mythical characters. Have you ever seen, read about, or heard of a siren without some female features? Have you ever seen, read about, or heard of a siren with male characteristics? Mythical or not, sirens are always female. This statue, besides being ugly, is sexist. Does it deserve a $2,000,0000 repair job? Not in my estimation.
You and Al Sharpton have a lot in common. He sees racism where it doesn’t exist. You see sexism where it doesn’t exist.
You recognize that sirens are mythical creatures but insist there is sexism because sirens are “female.” That’s like saying mermaids constitute discrimination against fish.
