3 Japan nuclear reactors had full meltdown, agency says
Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant experienced full meltdowns at three reactors in the wake of an earthquake and tsunami in March, the country's Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters said Monday.
The nuclear group's new evaluation, released Monday, goes further than previous statements in describing the extent of the damage caused by an earthquake and tsunami on March 11.
The announcement will not change plans for how to stabilize the Fukushima Daiichi plant, the agency said.
Reactors 1, 2 and 3 experienced a full meltdown, it said.
The plant's owner, Tokyo Electric Power Co., admitted last month that nuclear fuel rods in reactors 2 and 3 probably melted during the first week of the nuclear crisis.

Can you add me to your pinglist please?
thanks -
but we were told it wad nothing, not a big deal. I dont undestand. You mean the japan reactor problem was really serious?
Did we not know it already, certain we did.
“Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant experienced full meltdowns at three reactors in the wake of an earthquake and tsunami in March, the country’s Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters said Monday”
Well, obviously, the country’s Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters is just ‘fear mongering’. /s
I agree. It was so disturbing to see the Japanese take a page from the Soviet playbook (e.g. the way they told the population ‘all is well’ while Chernobyl irradiated the town.) The Soviets ‘didn’t want to alarm’ the public so they let them hold outdoor May Day celebrations a few km from the smoldering reactor. Then they did the math and figured out that, in two weeks, the entire town’s population would be dead at the rate of irradiation they were experiencing. So they abruptly put people on buses, once again lying to them and telling them they could return in two weeks, even though the Soviets knew that the people could never return. The Soviets made it illegal to report any person’s death as radiation related for the first 3 years following Chernobyl. 1.6 million people were forced to continue living in contaminated zones because there was no place to relocate them to.
A few months ago, a rabid pro nuker pointed to an international study that indicated that what the Soviets called ‘mental illness’ was a bigger problem for those who went through Chernobyl and were living in contaminated zones than were the medical problems caused by radiation. This pro nuker was taunting me by saying the hysteria around radiation was more damaging to populations than was actual radiation. It seriously never occurred to him, or he would never admit to it, that the so called ‘mental illness’ was the hopelessness and despair of a population that, though already living under the oppression of communism, had come face to face with their government’s a)control over their survival b) complete betrayal and lying and c) dismissal of all responsibility or regard for their humanity.
You can’t force people to raise their children in radioactive contamination and ‘call it ice cream’ without shattering people’s hope for the future. I NEVER believed that Japan would follow any portion of that same path, until now. They continue to release ‘the truth’ months after decisions to protect human life can be made. They didn’t share projections that showed radioactive plume over Tokyo around March 15 etc. The lies, lies, lies. Bad enough that the Japanese have had the shattering heartbreak of the tsunami and earthquake - but their government/nuke industry is actively working against their attempts to protect themselves. Like that won’t break hearts along with destroying health?
If you are going to break bad news to the People, break it to them in increments. / sarc
And if the fuel melts through the bottom of the pressure vessel and continues to melt downward until it hits the water table ... China Syndrome -> all the nuclear material gets blown into the atmosphere ~
Previously, they just said that full meltdown at reactor #1 and partial meltdown at reactor #2 and #3. Now they say that all three were in full meltdown. Besides, this is now official government announcement, which gives added weight.
I heard that #4 was the one with “MOX”, something that is worse than the others. Are they leaving #4 out of this assessment because they don’t yet want to admit that it is as bad?

during the first week? were there problems before the earthquake? why all the pretense? have the workers been able to contact their families yet? did they ever get enough lead blankets for everyone? is there still a press blackout on interviews with the workers?
i want an explanation of the physics.
The fuel became liquid because the temp became too high.
It is not possible to cool it sufficiently for the fuel to re-solidify.
The fuel is still be consumed by nuclear reaction, releasing more energy and radiation (contained with the plant).
IF the reactors are encased in concrete a la Chernobyl, how long before all the fuel is consumed?
In the US we have the “China Syndrome.”
What do they have in Japan, the “Falkland Syndrome?”
Can this be right?
Because we had many ‘experts’ here on FR tell us how it wasn’t any worse than the sun....people were threatened, locked out of their accounts, insulted, and told they would be shot- for even talking about the facts of the event ....j
