Excerpt from the post on the other thread talking about the volley of gunfire is probably incorrect:
“The heavy crash of an entire volley of musketry was the result of a group of men discharging their guns prior to entering the tavern - many of the taverns at that time prohibited their patrons from entering with loaded weapons and the only way to unload a musket is to discharge it.”
I thought it odd that if the enemy was coming - why would they empty their guns to go into a bar? Another freeper (musket loader for 40+ years) explained that before battle they would clear the old charge and put in a new charge just to be sure everything was fresh, not blocked, etc. (He had a much better description!)
