Barbour Warns Social Conservatives: Purity is the Enemy of Victory [Surrenders Life & Liberty]

Gov. Haley Barbour issued a warning to social conservatives in choosing their Republican nominee for 2012: “Purity is the enemy of victory.”

“Remember purity in politics, purity is the enemy of victory,” Barbour said. “We can’t start out with the idea out as the Faith & Freedom Coalition that our candidate’s got to agree with me on every single thing. We cannot expect our candidate to be pure. Winning is about unity. Winning is about us sticking together to achieve the main thing.”

“Conservatives, religious people, small government people, we are not going to have purity. We’re not going to have a perfect candidate,” Barbour said. “There’s only been one perfect person that ever walked on this earth. And there ain’t gonna be another one in this election.”

Then how about your boy Bloomberg?

He's your biggest RINO.

Or, Strom Thurmond ~ another one; Richard Shelby ~ another one!

I say we need to STOP RUNNING people who were actually active, practicing Democrat politicians from running as Republicans, and that's irrespective of their ideological inclinations.

We've busted up the Solid South. We've retaken the House a couple of times. We now run the majority of state legislatures.

The Republican party has its own body of talent that can win elections, and we don't need to run the other variety.

Here's the deal, you let RINOs in when you don't need them there are others who will take that to mean that the Republican party has no need to maintain a Conservative ideological position. You'll see people like Hatch, Snowe. Rubio, Lugar, Alexander, Graham, Mikulski and others think the Party Imprimatur on policies MEANS NOTHING.

These people get away with this because you aren't even prepared to defend the integrity of your language ~ of your own terminology.

You don't really think someone like Lugar worries about being called a RINO do you? He fears being called a Liberal!

The Democrats in California began alienating the lesbian vote ~ and there are a bunch of 'em in Hollywierd and Beverly Hills who have a lot of money.

Kind of quietly they approached the RNC.

The first people to jump on that were the Leftwingtards at the Washington Post, then the faux social Conservatives (as distinct from the real social Conservatives), and it all fell to pieces because a small group of women with money to donate ended up in a lesbian theme bar.

Well, of course.

It's pretty obvious the Republican party can't afford to get mixed up with homosexuals of any kind, so how do we get them to NOT support the Democrats?

That's a very real question.

I abhor all liberal or liberal-lite, liberal-esque, moderate, compromising Repubs. “My boy” Bloomberg?

Please, don’t make me vomit.

I can only vote for the names that are printed on my ballot. Locally I have a few good ones sometimes, but nationally - I can’t remember ever having a good choice since I woke up from my leftist stupor in my mid to late 20s.

You might accuse of some things, but being someone who favors liberal type Repubs is way off the mark!

If you don't oppose Leftwingtards running for office as Republicans then you own them.

I dont want them in the primaries, and in states like New York where they seem to have difficulty legally controlling the use of their name on the ballot, WE SHOULD KICK THEM OUT OF THE NATIONAL PARTY UNTIL THAT PROBLEM IS FIXED.

Bloomberg was a symptom of a far greater problem than having Olympia Snow run as a Republican. He STOLE OUR LABEL. Doesn't mean Olympia is not a problem ~ she is ~ a bad one. We should have tossed her out of the party the first time she joined in one of those "reach arounds" with the Democrats ~ same with McCain.

Reacharounds are symptomatic and never fail to reveal people who do not respect the Republican party at all.

Purity is the enemy of reality, as well.

Barbour Warns Social Conservatives: Purity is the Enemy of Victory [Surrenders Life & Liberty]
ABC News ^ | 06/03/2011 | Arlette Saenz

Gov. Haley Barbour issued a warning to social conservatives in choosing their Republican nominee for 2012: “Purity is the enemy of victory.”

David Wrote:

Problem with that view is this. - We are attempting to affect a change in the direction of public policy.

[snip]

So yes, I am for pretty much purity--even if it involves candidates like Palin, Cain, and Bachmann who don't come from establishment backgrounds with establishment credentials.

Thanks, David.

Check out # 126 and # 127, too.

Winning is about us

Who exactly is us?

"sticking together to achieve the main thing.”

And that would be what?

If you don't oppose Leftwingtards running for office as Republicans then you own them.

Sometimes we've agreed, on FR, and sometimes we've disagreed. Right now you're shadow boxing because your assumptions of me could not - I repeat - could NOT - be further from the truth.

There's a crowd that wants to misuse the term RINO so they can obscure the fact their favorite candidate is a Liberal ~ Rick Perry comes to mind ~ but he actually ran as a Democrat and won office as a Democrat.

If we want to stop RINOs we have to stop them at the very foundation of the game they play. We no longer need them to help bust the Solid South.

"so how do we get them to NOT support the Democrats?

That's a very real question."

Leadership at all levels.

People are looking for direction, for meaning in life (and eternity).

We have that.

Do we really believe that there is objective Truth?

Do we really believe that there is eternal Truth?

Then with patience, kindness and humility, let folks know!

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matt 5:4-16

Not everyone wants to know ANY truth, but the vast majority of folks are looking for answers in some areas.

If we provide a few of the answers they need then we establish our creditability as a source of answers, of truth.

Eventually, many will come around to the source of ALL Truth.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

Good post.

I was merely stating the obvious. Christ walked on earth and he was perfect!
