I heard that Macs are better as far as viruses. Is there a reputable dealer that sells Macs? I don't imagine I can afford a brand new Mac.

They are much better. You have several options.

(1) Check out the refurbished machines on the Apple website here:

If you have a functioning monitor, you may just want to buy a new Mac Mini and hook it up to your existing monitor and speakers.

I use linux for the net and windows for programs.
