GM food toxins found in the blood of 93% of unborn babies

GM firms claimed toxins were destroyed in the gut

Study: Mothers to be were tested Toxins implanted into GM food crops to kill pests are reaching the bloodstreams of women and unborn babies, alarming research has revealed.

A landmark study found 93 per cent of blood samples taken from pregnant women and 80 per cent from umbilical cords tested positive for traces of the chemicals. Millions of acres in North and South America are planted with GM corn containing the toxins, which is fed in vast quantities to farm livestock around the world – including Britain.

However, it is now clear the toxins designed to kill crop pests are reaching humans and babies in the womb – apparently through food.

It is not known what, if any, harm this causes but there is speculation it could lead to allergies, miscarriage, abnormalities or even cancer.

To date the industry has always argued that if these toxins were eaten by animals or humans they would be destroyed in the gut and pass out of the body, thus causing no harm. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1388888/GM-food-toxins-blood-93-unborn-babies.html#ixzz1NTfM2jJj

the above post should probably read as -> so it can withstand larger amounts of pesticides.

"... tested positive for traces of the chemicals."

The key word is "traces". This could mean as little as a single molecule. There could be (and in all likelihood is) a huge difference between the minimum detectable amount, and the maximum safe amount. As Hodar says, in #9; the dose makes the poison.

No, there is in principle no difference between these two forms of genetic modification. Your emotional reaction notwithstanding.

Is this a problem? What are the “toxins” involved? At what amounts are they showing up in the bloodstream? Are there explanations other than GM foods for these toxins appearing in the bloodstream? What are the known effects of the “toxins” at the concentrations being displayed?

The GM food industry is obviously biased. Just as much so as the authors of this study.

If Hitler told you that 2 plus 2 equalled 4, and Mother Theresa told you that 2 plus 2 equalled 5, who would you believe? Facts stand on their own, and should not be judged by based on the character of the person communicating them.

Yeah, the idea is to make the food plant robust enough to stand up to chemical weeding agents that otherwise would harm it. Which works OK until the weeds start to get smart and catch on to the trick too.

The way it works is that companies like Monsanto Genetically Modify their seeds to be “round-up ready”. This basically means that they change the DNA of the plant so that the plant is immune to Round-up. Then, when you plant the crop, you can spray the area with Round Up and it will kill everything but the Round Up ready plants. Other plants are genetically modified to produce the pesticide.

The problem is that these plants literally are secreting the pesticide from their core - it permeates every part of the plant. They say it’s GREAT!!! because then you don’t have to spray - the pesticide is built into the plant! But then you can’t avoid eating pesticides. Most of these genetically modified organisms are coming from Monsanto.

The FDA says they have tested GM crops and they are safe, but this is a lie. If you do you’re research you will find documents by the FDA confirming that they haven’t done ANY thorough testing of GM crops, and research how many government employees, including the FDA and EPA who also work for Monsanto. Can you say conflict of interest?

There has been independent research done on GM corn, where they fed it to lab rats. By the third generation, they were all born STERILE, meaning UNABLE TO PRODUCE OFFSPRING. Seriously, go look this stuff up, then tell me what your opinion is....

Monsanto employees are a revolving door with Government. If people think it’s “scaremongering” that’s fine but check it out for yourself anyway. Better to be safe than sorry.

Good links, thanks. True, if it’s so wonderful why is Monsanto fighting against labeling their products. And how come they may soon be able to test their own products.

Genetic modification is the altering of an organism's DNA, usually by adding DNA from an outside source. The most dominant GM trait is herbicide tolerance. Crops are engineered to survive an otherwise toxic dose of weed killer.

The second most popular GM trait is a built-in pesticide. The plant produces pesticidal toxins in every cell. Monarch butterflies are often killed when feeding on corn. If a plant kills bugs, should we really be breathing its pollen, eating honey made from its nectar, or ingesting the plant?

Virtualy an entire Filipino village of about 100 people living next to a large field of GM corn were stricken with a disease. The symptoms, which appeared at the time the corn was producing pollen, included headaches, dizziness, extreme stomach pain, vomiting, chest pains, fever, and allergies as well as resirator and skin problems. Many have remained ill to this day. 96 got sick and several died. Also, 9 horses, 4 water buffalo, and 37 chickens died soon after eating the GM corn.

Lab animals tested with GM foods had stunted growth, impaired immune systems, bleeding stomachs, abnormal and potentially precancerous cell growth in the intestines, impaired bloog cell development, misshapen cell structures in the liver pancreas and other places, liver and kidney lesions, partially atorphied livers, inflamed kidneys, less developed brains, reduced digestive enzymes, high blood sugar, inflamed lugh tissue, increased death rates, and higher ofspring mortality.

Soy allergies skyrocketed by 50% in the UK soon after GM soy was introduced.

Genetically altered soy, corn, cotton, and canola and their derivatives are found in 70% of all processed foods.

Toxins in GM food?

There are no ‘toxins’. That’s why they were ‘Genetically Modified’ to avoid any toxins from pesticides!

How does modifying a gene create toxins?

And all your organic veggies and grains... those have been selectively bred through hybridization, which by its very definition is genetic modification.

So, it's your contention that the work of Luther Burbank and the work of Monsanto are identical? Just no difference at all in how the two produced plants that were genetically different?

GM = Genetically Modified

Certain crops, like some strains of corn, have been modified to produce the toxins that harm the pests that try to eat those crops - like a genetically built in pesticide; or modified genetically to produce substances that make some pesticides more effective.

The arguments center around whether or not the substances the GM strains produce, or the level of such substances that GM strains produce, are harmful to humans or not.

The first rule of toxicology is that "the dose makes the poison."

Just because a thing can be detected does not mean that the amount detected is significant.

...but it sounds like they might eventually trim our species back to a more normal size and save the planet instead.

What is the normal size of our species? What tragedy is befalling the planet that it will require saving?
