Sixty-one percent of American adultsincluding some who describe themselves as pro-choicetold Gallup in a survey conducted May 5-8 that abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances.
The Gallup survey, published today, asked 1,018 American adults whether they considered themselves pro-choice or pro-life on abortion. It also asked: Do you think abortions should be legal under any circumstances, legal only under certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances?
For those who answered that abortion should be legal only under certain circumstances, Gallup asked the follow-up question: Do you think abortion should be legal in most circumstances or only in a few circumstances?
Forty-nine percent told Gallup they were pro-choice and 45 percent said they were pro-life, marking the first time since May 2008 that the percentage of Americans describing themselves to Gallup as pro-choice exceeded the percentage describing themselves as pro-life.
(Pro-life self-identification peaked in May 2009, when 51 percent told Gallup they were pro-life and 42 percent said they were pro-choice.)
In this years survey, in addition to the approximately 49 percent who said they were pro-choice and 45 percent who said they were pro-life, another approximately 7 percent would not describe themselves as either pro-choice or pro-life. This included 2 percent who said they had no opinion on the matter, 2 percent who said they did not know what the terms pro-choice and pro-life meant, and 3 percent who described themselves as mixed on the issue or neither one of the two.
Only 27 percent in this year's survey told Gallup they thought abortion should be legal under any circumstances whatsoever.
About 71 percent said they thought abortion should be illegal in at least some cases. This included 22 percent who said it should be illegal in all circumstances, 39 percent who said it should be legal in only a few circumstances, and 10 percent who said it should be legal in most circumstances.
The 22 percent who said it should be illegal in all circumstances and the 39 percent who said it should be legal in only a few circumstances equal a majority of 61 percent who believe abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances.
Because only 49 percent said they were pro-choice, and another 7 percent declined to describe themselves as either pro-choice or pro-life, the poll numbers indicate that at least some of those who described themselves as pro-choice must have also have been among the 61 percent who said they believed abortion should either be illegal in all circumstances or legal only in a few circumstances.
Gallup did not publish a breakdown of the percentage of self-described pro-choice people who said they believe abortion should be illegal in either all or most circumstances.
Gallup also asked respondents whether they personally believed abortion was morally acceptable or morally wrong. It did not ask anyone if they thought abortion was morally right.
A majority--51 percent--said they believed abortion was morally wrong. Only 39 percent said they believed it was morally acceptable.
The percentage saying abortion was morally wrong did not differ by gender, with 51 percent of men and 51 percent of women saying abortion was morally wrong.
It did differ by age group, however. Younger Americans tended to have a tougher moral view of abortion than their elders.
Fifty-three percent in the 18-34 age bracket said they believed abortion was morally wrong. That exceeded the 51 percent of Americans in the 55 and older bracket who said they believed abortion was morally wrong, and the 48 percent in the 35-54 bracket who said it was morally wrong.
Women and younger Americans were more likely than others to reject exceptions for legalized abortion. Twenty-four percent of women, and 24 percent of Americans 18-34 said they believed abortion should be illegal in all circumstances.
Only 19 percent of men took that position.
It doesn’t matter what the People want, as long as the dems are in power, America will continue to kill babies.
It’s Obama’s world now.
Nevertheless, statistics have held remarkably constant for over 30 years, in that, by decisive majorities, most Americans would oppose most abortions most of the time.
Unfortunately, the exceptions could be chatracterized as follows:

Well at least 61 out of 100 Americans still have a semblance of conscience.
Personal note: We were childless and I can still remember my lovely wife being asked when she was 43 and pregnant with twins whether or not she wanted an amniocentesis.
She stated emphatically NO, that she didn’t want to know and it didn’t matter, she was absolutely having them regardless.
I was never more proud of her.
Thanks be to God we have two beautiful 13 year old twins that make are life a joy daily.
61% is the EXACT same figure as opposed Obamacare and they did it anyway. 61% is the EXACT same figure that people supported “one man, one woman” in CA and a judge there didn’t care. So it makes no difference.
By law my ob had to ask me if I wanted an amnio. I said no, because abortion wasn’t an option anyway.
The NP looked me in the eye and said *I wish more people felt that way*, and it was never an issue after that.
My ob group would NOT do abortions and the hospital had one of the lowest infant and maternal mortality rates in the state. I think it was God’s hand of blessing on them for honoring Him that way.
That also highlights the big lie pushed by abortion/infanticide supporters -
You see - one caveat given for at least allowing abortion in “some” cases is the life of the mother. Yet when one actually does real investigation, we can find that the actual risk to mothers of having a baby are far less than the risk of driving to the grocery store. Furthermore, with any sort of pre-natal medical care, the risks are dropped even further - to a level that can nearly be described as statistically inconsequential.
But you see - pregnancy can cause swollen ankles and feet, headaches, moodiness, back pain, frequent urination, and so many other “symptoms” that affect a woman’s so-called “quality of life” that those get lumped in with “protecting the life of the mother”. Its all part of the fraud.
Win the white house, win the senate and hope Ginsburg retires.
Then change everything and tell the RATS to piss off.
My understanding is that if there’s ever any risk to the life of the mother, it’s almost always in the later stages of the pregnancy. I don’t know of any early pregnancy issues that endanger the life of the mother that warrant an abortion.
In the later stages where there can be possible risk to the mother’s life, like in preeclampsia, the baby can be safely delivered prematurely and cared for in NICU. Abortion is just not justified in those cases because after 22 weeks at the very earliest, the baby is likely to survive and the older, the better the chances.
So, the *life of the mother* argument really has no merit.
I think a large part of this move has to be the spread of 3D & 4D ultrasound, and also the internet.
The pro-life movement has a powerful web presence to reach vast numbers that simply did not exist 15 odd years ago.

A bit of good news here.
I haven't been logging in much the last several months, hope all is well in your neck of the universe.
This a very positive sign that education - truthful education - is what it will take to change hearts and minds about the terrible sin of abortion.
Thaks for the ping. All is smooth here ‘bouts. The machines are worth every penny, Kev. To see the face of her child so she sees whom loves her unquestioningly, well, love is after all the most powerful force in the universe.
More and more people are waking up!
