India was somewhat loosely aligned with the Soviet Union, as I recall.
Having dangerous enemies can result in the selection of odd bedfellows. Just look at the USA and the Soviet Union in WWII.
That is precisely so. And given the Cold War reality of a true existential threat with 30,000+ nukes and an explicitly stated goal of world domination, we took allies wherever we could.
No kidding. There was a time we considered Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden our allies.
Going in without permission, right in the heart of their military complex, under their military’s noses, if you will, and shooting Bin Ladin dead and snatching his body was a national embarrassment to the Pakis so great that I can’t even think of an analogy. We MADE THEM OUR BITCH by doing that and they’re rightly pissed. It was an Act of War, a Violation of Their National Sovereignty. They would be within their rights to throw every damn American out of their country over it, and block our access to supply routes into the stan.
So, a little chest beating, a little gunfire is to be expected for a while. I’d be damn careful if I were a yank working around there.
India has struggled with Islamic idiots over many centuries. Why in hell are we aligned with Pakistan? Idiots.
