Mark Steyn: Sarah Palin a better king maker than GOP candidate
The Right Scoop ^ | May 13,2011

Posted on 05/13/2011 6:17:38 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Mark Steyn says he has a soft spot for Tim Pawlenty and believes he may be the last man standing to challenge Obama in 2012. He also says Newt won’t be President and that Trump isn’t conservative and trashes his demonization of China as the single source of all that ails us.

As for Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin, Steyn says he wouldn’t advise them to enter the field of 2012 GOP candidates. He says Sarah Palin would make a better king-maker and Huckabee should stick with his successful Fox News show.

I like you Mark, but I think you’re dead wrong on this one.

I’ll wager that if Palin runs, she’ll suck the political oxygen away from all other contenders. I saw her on Gretta’s show the other night, and I think she’s going to wait it out, and then at the right moment, announce her candidacy.

Palin is the only true conservative out there, and the voters know it!

Palin 2012!

If Cain is your “only” hope, then you better prepare for utter and complete desolation.

Cain is my only hope OUT OF utter and complete desolation of the last two years.

Oh that's rich ! ROTFLMSOPIMP

Look, you're the one who has swallowed the MSM/inside the beltway punditry re Palin.

I am not "closed minded" at all and other people's views are, more often than not, damned dead wrong.

Try taking your own advice and look at what I post with an "open mind".

Now there’s a novel concept!... No, wait... I think that’s what the Founding Father’s envisioned.

Once again, I am finally with hope with Cain.

But if Sarah gets the nom, I’ll proudly vote for her again in ‘12.

The argument for her running boils down to her being a nobody if she does not run?

That's kinda bassackwards, but yeah, exactly. It's not an ego thing, it's a reality thing. She really is somebody in that she draws thousands to hear about politics, and her word sways votes. Why do you think that is? And why on earth do you think it would be as powerful if she didn't run for pres?

Timing is everything.

So yeah, her risk of becoming a "nobody" by not running is a pretty real one, if you ask me, and it's why I have always thought the "we need her to stay in the role she has now" mindset was so inane. The role she has now is a fleeting thing, just like opportunity always is.

“I am not “closed minded” at all and other people’s views are, more often than not, damned dead wrong”.

Do you see anything wrong with that statement?

Voters respect and admire her so much that they'll vote for virtually anyone she asks them to... ...but not her. Really? Really? You honestly believe that? C'mon. Get a grip.

Well said!

Look, I hate to burst your bubble, but Cain isn't the answer.

He has NO political backing.

He has NO experience and that IS important, in the world of politics.

He has a bit of a grassroots, but not nearly enough and isn't likely to get any.

His race works mightily against him, as a GOPer.

Neither you nor I know much about him, which makes what might be hiding in his closet a very scary thing.

He's oldish.

There are business things he was involved with that can easily be spun and make him look REALLY bad.

Need I go on?

Sarah IS the answer................the ONLY answer! And I say that NOT as some kind of "cultist", but rather as a realist. And even she won't easily beat Obama, but she CAN beat him and is the ONLY one who can.

She's playing it smart. She say "it's too early to get into the race."

Reagan didn't announce until Nov. Worked for him. By this Nov., everyone will be sick to death of watching the candidates who now have their hats in the ring.

Also, by NOT declaring now, she maintains her bully pulpit on FOX News, which she would have to give up if she declares. This gives her months more of being about to 'pundit' able anyone and anything without nearly the amount of media put-down as she'll get if she again becomes a candidate.

Savvy Lady.

No, but I'm sure that you do. LOL

Look, I have no idea how old you are, how long you have been interested in politics, nor how involved you have been, in it. All I can go by is what you post. Lets leave it at that..............shall we? :-)

Yes, Palin has a huge following, which will NOT translate into them voting for some other person, who she might claim to back. You obviously have little understanding of her supporters.

Palin is not "unelectable"; however, every single person now with a hat in the ring, or talked about, IS unelectable! Not a one of them can beat Obama and the GOP will lose the House, should one of the pygmies be the GOP candidate.

You're right on both points.

Palin is not unelectable.

Palin, if she doesn't run, would not be a "kingmaker".

The value of Palin is that she might be elected as a pro Constitution, anti-establishment president in 2012.

We’re a year and a half away from the election. I believe it’s already too late for anyone who doesn’t already have name recognition to win. And, should Mr. Nameless suddenly appear out of nowhere, how is he (or she) to survive the relentless media attempt to destroy them once they become the front-runner (unless, of course, they’re clearly unelectable - in which case the media will do everything possible to support them).

However, she does have a huge amount of support and respect from rank-and-file conservatives who would be willing, if she asked them to, to hold their nose and vote for an otherwise imperfect candidate.

IF Palin asked me to hold my nose and vote for business as usual, I'd tell her to forget it. BAU has morphed into being more damaging than the opposition. It's how we got where we are.
