Twin bombings at Pakistan paramilitary base 'kill 69'
BBC via APF ^ | May 13th 2011 | Staff

Posted on 05/12/2011 9:50:00 PM PDT by Cardhu

A twin bomb attack on a paramilitary force academy in north-western Pakistan has killed at least 69 people, police say.

A number of people were hurt in the blast at the training centre in Shabqadar, Charsadda district.

There are reports that two suicide bombers carried out the attack.

It is the bloodiest attack since US forces killed al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in the town of Abbottabad, northern Pakistan, on 2 May.

Militant groups have pledged to avenge Bin Laden's death. However, no group has so far claimed responsibility for Friday's attack.

'Deadliest attack'

"There were two bomb blasts," Jahanzeb Khan, a senior police officer in Shabqadar, told the AFP news agency.

The attack happened as newly trained cadets from the Frontier Corps were getting into buses for a short leave after completing their course.

Most of the victims - 65 - were recruits, but there were also civilian casualties, officials say.

The injured were taken to a local hospital.

A number of vehicles were destroyed in the blast.

Security forces sealed off the area.

Shabqadar lies on the border with Afghanistan, about 35km (22 miles) north-west of Peshawar.

The BBC's Aleem Maqbool in Islamabad says the security forces have often been the target of such attacks as they fight the Pakistani Taliban across the north-west of the country, but Friday's bombing is the deadliest attack this year.

There has been speculation, too, that militants would try to avenge the death of Bin Laden, our correspondent says.

Why would terrorists bomb Pakistani Government Officials when they were the ones harboring OBL?

This could be staged to make the Pakistani Government look like they don't support Al-Qaeda.

It could be rivalry. Or, just another case of Muslim irrationality.

Where is this location relative to the Korengal Valley? I’m curious as this is where my son is currently stationed.

It sounds like all of the terrorists the Pakistanis have cultivated aren't tame.

Yup. Muslims cults will kill other Muslim cults if that's all they can get close to. Islam is and has always been a virus on humanity/civilization that should be shot with massive doses of anti-Islamofacist-biotics.

Think daisy-cutters and/or tactical nukes. And yes, I believe Dresden and Hiroshima deserved it. So do these barbarians. Maybe enough collateral damage would make a point. Your family and friends versus theirs? It will eventually come down to that. Got problem?

Funny you should mention Dresden. I was in Germany a while back and had opportunity to discuss WWII and the allied bombing of Germany with some fine folk there. We even drove by a square block in Köln that had been destroyed but preserved in that bombed state since the war. My friends wanted to show me what we Americans had done to their fine city. 262 air raids by the Western Allies caused approximately 20,000 civilian casualties they said. And to that I responded with the fact that Germany killed up to 6 million Jews and someone had to stop it. I was shocked to discover so many did not believe the holocaust ever occurred. I was told not to believe what I read in my American history books. To which I countered with I don’t believe the books as much as I believe the movie footage I’ve seen. They countered with, “Where is Hollywood? You don’t think they could put together something like that in Hollywood?” These people were modern, educated people yet they don’t believe or don’t want to believe their country could ever have perpetrated such evil. It was a very interesting day.

I don’t think this was staged in any way as Pakistan has indeed been taking hits by the Taliban and and Al-qaeda for a long time. I think if we remember that Iran backs both these groups...Pakistan leadership is aware of this but they are not real bright when it comes to handling the circumstances they’ve created. Pakistan is known to be very volitile and harbers many criminals as well as playing all sides of these tribal wars.

"If you lie down with dogs, you will get up with fleas..."

Exactly. Too many over-think the Islamist position. They are simply 7th century barbarians who want to kill in the name of their god, whether it be Infidels or other Muslims who don't subscribe to their specific irrational religious teachings. It's a very simple equation: civilization versus barbarianism.

Currently, politically correct (PC) civilization is losing ground to the growing goat-humping, raping, killing, stoning, beheading barbarians around the entire rock. It would take an entire thread to list the atrocities that these sub-humans have caused just since 9/11, not to mention over the last decades - think Israel cafes, weddings, buses blown up from the "righteous" Palis.

Gawd, I hate Islam. Yes, I said hate. Sic the Homeland Security PC police on me. I'll yell it from the rooftops when they come. I despise Islam. I also don't really give a shit about Christianity or Judaism, but at least they aren't murderous and believe in peace. Religion...pfft! Believe what you will, but stop trying to enforce your beliefs on me. Disclaimer: I'm an agnostic or deist at best.

to punish who they thought let them down in protecting OBL.

This is the way that part of the world does business. Nothing new.

They can’t easily pick on U.S. targets, and so the next best is those who let the local nutjobs down.

If you want to quick short cut to know a person;

1) watch how they treat people below their “station” like waiters.

2) watch how they treat stray animals

3) find out what they think about the Jews (indirectly is best here)

If they fail any one of these three, I know what I am dealing with.....

My best friend from high school’s mother was German, and over dinner one day (when staying with my friend), she commented “Hitler was not such a bad man”. I made sure I was not at her table any more.

Pakistani government forces have been under attack by al Queda for almost a decade.

They repeatedly tried to kill Mushareff. Who do you think is behind the many attacks on churches there?

I think that the military and the ISI (intelligence) represent two different and not necessarily cooperative power centers. Some in the ISI have been implicated in the Mumbai, India terrorism. It would probably amuse some ISI official/s to plant Bin Laden less than a mile from the Pakistan equivalent of West Point. How embarrassing for the military. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in Pakistan in the coming year.

Are you kidding me? Some still believe it didn't happen? There are countless photos, newsreels, museums, and testimonials by liberating Allies to prove the Holocaust happened. Hell, my own Father saw it.

I thought Germany had long acknowledged their Nazi barbarism. I would guess you were probably talking to University students.

For arguements sake, let's pretend the Jew extermination didn't happen (as if). It was still all out world war and too bad for the collateral damage to Nagasaki. Japan learned a HUGE lesson from that war.

I say bomb and bomb again to those who will make war against peaceful nations. Actually, now I'm inclined to think tactical nukes. Bet you Israel will eventually take out Iran's facilities like they did Syria's.

Bottom line: kill every single bad guy in the world, preemptively (yes,I'm okay with assinations). Let the UN whine with their Human Rights Council that includes Syria of all countries.

Kill them all. I'd rather their women and children die in collateral damage than our own women and children. Too friggin bad for them for starting it.

BTW, the children of Gaza and Hamas and Hezbollah are taught to hate and train to kill Israelis and other western communities from their earliest teaching (see the documentary, "Children of Gaza). It is documented. Again, kill them all and let us enjoy our way of life. Yup, I'm that hard core. Got problem?

My compassion only goes so far. It ends where our children are at risk. Kill these Islamofacist punks. I can think of other destruction, but won't specify on this board. Use your imagination what would be the best.

Hi Homeland Security. Yes, I HATE Islamofacists. Come get me for espousing hate. I also hate you, and your over-reaching intrusion into my privacy. I also hate most politicians; I hate standing in line at DMV; I hate sour-crout; I also hate broccoli, which is picked by illegal aliens, which I hate them for taking American jobs. I hate a lot of stuff.

Awaiting your stupid waste of time and resources knocking on my door. I'll tell you to your face how much I hate what this country has become and I hate you for bothering me. Hate is a human emotion, and as long as I don't act on my hate, I get to hate. Deal with it.
