“Would you want to be in a middle seat next to her?
Nope, especially when the cow farts out her breakfast of 12 sausage links.”

And THIN people don't fart?

I always sat with my wife and flew on planes or chose rows that had only two seats per row, so as to not inconvenience anyone else. I could fit (tight squeeze) with the arm rests down. Now, with repeated stories like this one, and comments like those on this thread, I will NEVER fly again.

This means I have to give up my mission trips to Mexico and give up going on cruises, (which I have been on many). The airlines and cruise ship companies will miss the dollars I used to spend with them. While I have never been singled out by an airline for being overweight, I am not willing to risk the embarrassment or the possibility of being stranded in some airport.

Don’t give up flying just fly first class, the seats are bigger, more leg room, more service. But don’t expect a stranger to be OK with you “pressing flesh” with them for hours and hours.

Hey, don’t let it get you down. Being seated next to someone who slops over into your space does seem to bring out the hate in people.

I’ve read these threads before and it’s interesting.

I have absolutely no disagreement with the policy but the ticket agents should take a course in how to handle these situations. My daughter is an HR manager and they do sexual harassment courses all the time.

The agent should ask to speak to the person privately and there should be a private place for the seriously overweight individual to sit in a prototype airplane seat. It should be quickly obvious if an extra ticket is necessary.

Perhaps a conversation ahead of time when you plan to fly would let you know your options and prevent the danger of being bounced.
