When did rap become accepted and mainstreamed?

It happen about the same time teenage pimple faced suburban White kids started walking around with their pants halfway to their knees talking and acting like Blacks from a Detroit ghetto. Amazing. Shocking really.

Visiting the in-laws way out in the country of Ohio. Stopped at a gas station for a fill-up. In comes a pickup truck with a coon tail on the antenna. Alright, nothing unusual about that.

The kid opened the door and he was listening to the most hardcore Black rap I’ve ever heard in my life. Every second word was MF this, and MF that. This from a guy whose idea of ‘urban’ is when he gets to the red-light.

I don’t know. Just weird how deep this glorification of violence and depravity has penetrated.
