White House officials have sidelined a rapper who glibly validated threats and violence against police, and quietly dropped him from the afternoon session of todays poetry event at the White House.
First lady Michelle Obama welcomed the invited poets to the event, but notably did not mention the controversial rapper, whose stage-name is Common. Rita Dove, Billy Collins, Kenny Goldsmith, Alison Knowles, and Aimee Mann, lets give them a round of applause, Ms. Obama said. Well get to hear from these folks, she added.
The first ladys office declined to comment on whether Common will play a role in the events evening session.

wow you are really grasping for straws arent you? Its an alternate spelling for hannibal barca, the phoenician general who almost conquered rome.
You cant be serious...
..... and yet, a few lines later, he claims he 'holds a peace sign' (disavows that message), but 'carries a gun' (really meant it).
And now, now that it is obvious you cannot defend your comment that burning a Bush is a biblical reference, you go on to question the word 'burn'. Ok, Bill Clinton, so what IS the meaning of the word 'is'?
Let us play your semantic game -- one meaning of the word 'burn', especially in context of other violent imagery, is to kill.
FAIL
and the word “A” in between burn and bush points to bush being a thing and not a person. How hard is this to understand?
Nonsense, since we elected a Kennedy. It is within keeping with perfectly common usage of the language to preface a surname with the word 'a' to denote one of the members of the familial clan.
FAIL
See my 104.
Secondly, you are giving him a hard time because he said he has a gun in his hand?
So you are in favor of gun control? Because you obviously have problems with a person saying he has a gun in his hand.
I'm absolutely in favor of gun control for people who allude to killing police and Presidents, yes.
Furthermore, the whole little spiel you spout off about Common disavowing violence, pales in veracity when he goes on to extend and strengthen those comments only a few lines later. You lie. You lie and you fail.
saying you elected a kennedy is different than saying “burn a bush”. One is something that you can only do to a human, the other can be a multitude of things. It is down to interpretation, and you are interpreting it in one way, and I, another. You are dishonest just for the sake of your argument.
And show me the other lines, infact why dont you show the entire thing, unless you think im going to take your word for it, after all the garbage you have posted.
Ah yes. The old "Saying a saved a quarter, is a lot different than saying I saved a dollar" argument.
Well, maybe you aren't an infiltrator. Maybe you are just as dense as a rock.
Lines we are talking about are bolded.
Im dense because you cant understand that you cant elect anything buy a human to office? Unless you do really think we can elect a couch to the presidency.
“electing a kennedy” can only be a human, whereas “burn a bush” can mean different things.
And youre calling ME dense? WOW! Whats your deal with “infiltrator” in any case. Im having an argument over such a stupid subject which is a case of interpretation, and im a rat infiltrator suddenly. Youre ridiculous, you even went as far as taking half my profile name and saying “it means demon so i should be banned!” Thats how ridiculous you are! Im also positive that the moderator will look at our posts and shake his/her head at the stupidity of it all.
2 questions:
1) Do you agree that “ electing a ______ “ can only refer to a human being elected so that whatever is in the blank has to be a name?
2) Do you agree that the fact there is an a between burn and bush that it is POSSIBLE he is being poetic by exposing president bush and using a biblical allusion at the same time?
You are interpreting burning a bush as killing the president for some reason, I interpret it as exposing the president similar to burning or exposing a clandestine agent.
I’m guessing both an infiltrator and dense as a rock.
I will continue challenging your shameless backing of a advocate of cop-killing and Presidential assassination, tomorrow. Then you can proceed with more amoral sophistry intended on backing the most vile elements of society.
No question. He's all over the map. "It's a biblical reference, no, 'burn' means various things, no wait, it IS a biblical reference, no wait, it's a dessert topping, no no no, it's a floor polish."
Infiltrator, and dense as a rock.
Thanks for that post.
ok lets break it down. Firstly reading through this, sounds like a garbage song or maybe my flow is just completely off when reading it.
The first parts until the boldened area is really nothing, so i will skip to the first boldened section. The first bold part, i agree, completely tasteless, that is the verse that is ended by the couplet of:
“No time for that, because theres things to be done
Stay true to what I do so the youth dream come”
That is where I mentioned he disavowed the above about violence.
You claiimed though that after that line he goes on with more violent stuff. all i see is the verse about the burn a bush which is what we have been arguing about. It really is the burn a bush line that is the focal point, the rest of the lines on bush are on corruption etc.. which he has all the right to say.
the last line he says he carries a gun. So what?
So i dont see how you could have made that earlier claim that he goes on in the song to espouse even more violence, where the only line that really would be controversial after that peace sentence would be the burn a bush one we have been arguing about.
im not all over the place, im saying exaclty what you said. It can mean many things and not just what you WANT it to mean. you can call me dense all you want.
I probably have a bigger house than you, better education, I am a proud owner of two companies. Yeah some trailer trash bottom feeder really gets to me by calling me dense because he cant understand that the letter a in a sentence is usually referring to a thing and not a person.
