“A generation ago, nothing would have become of this.”

They wrote songs about this type of stuff happening a generation ago. Anyone remember this?

They were farm kids way down in Dixie
They met in high school in the sixties
Everyone knew it was love from the start
One July in the midnight hour
He climed up on the water tower
Stood on the rail and painted a 10ft heart
In John Deere green

On a hot summer night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
In letters 3 foot high
And the whole town said that he should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere green

The song’s eighteen years old — about the age of a high school senior.

A local high school has a water tower directly across the street. It took a few years but the town nipped things in the bud and they now send a paint crew up each year to paint the traditional "CLASS OF ...."

Kinda like buying jean shorts that are frayed like they were cut off. Just not the same as the real deal... (uh, I mean, back when cut-offs were cool, of course)
