Report: Mitch Daniels ‘Would Like to Run’ for Prez, Just Waiting on Wife’s OK

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels wants to run for president and is not in the process of convincing himself to do it, a close adviser said. The last hurdle remaining is ongoing discussions between him and his wife, Cheri Daniels, over whether she is ready to face questions about their past.

“I think he would like to do it,” the Daniels adviser told The Huffington Post by phone. “I actually think he’d have a decent chance of getting the nomination.”

The insight from a source close to the governor contradicts many of the reports that have focused on whether Daniels will run or not. Daniels has been portrayed — and has in some ways portrayed himself — as a reluctant potential candidate, someone who had hoped the GOP would find someone else to be their standard-bearer but is unimpressed with the candidates who have so far declared their intent to run.

The confirmation that the Daniels’ marriage is the last hurdle in front of a bid for the White House highlights the delicate situation in which the Governor finds himself.

Sounds like shorty needs to grow a pair.

If Daniels were 6'5" instead of 5'7", and he had hair, his comment might be portrayed as chivalrous. But 5'7" and bald doesn't get the benefit of the doubt.

It is a lot easier to find discrimination against height than race.

Daniels is a short, bald, wussie.

Daniels could not fight his way out of a wet paperbag.

Yeah, I hate being foisted on. Maybe one day we can have primaries and let the voters decide. Oh, wait.......

Sarcasm? Are you not aware of the following?

1. Many states allow non-Republicans to vote in Republican primaries. This allows Democrats to perpetrate voter fraud and select their desired Republican opponent.

2. The candidates are not actually selected by primaries; they are selected by delegates at the convention. A candidate who overwhelmingly won the primaries might not be selected.

I guess I am the only one here who does not trust the political parties to pick a candidate that reflects the will of the people?

This is a huge problem I admit, and I am staunchly against this. Not the same thing as a national party “foisting” anything on us though.

Theoretically yes, but that’s not how we got McCain or Dole or Bush 41. They all won the primary vote. If this did ever happen, then it would certainly be “foisting” upon us....but until then, moot point.

Mr. Daniels, if you have to get your wife’s permission, then we don’t need you.

Big talk, son. Reaallly big talk. IF you're married, I seriously doubt that your actions are as big as your talk.

I'd not use the word "foisting", but there is an MSM influence on GOP primary voters that can't be denied.

I remember the many news stories as the campaign began in 2008, all claiming McCain was the only candidate that could beat Hillary. I actually know someone that voted for him in our primary as a result.

Wherever the Journolist has gone to find its talking points (I'm confident they have found a way to do this again), the MSM seems to be throwing out the idea that Daniels should be our candidate.

Rush spent a lot of time on this yesterday, and I tend to agree with him, the MSM and the libs are hoping to influence the GOP voters to pick Daniels. Short, boring, bald, inconsistent and fearful of what the libs will say about him.....he's perfect.

I totally agree on the MSM influence - but that is something totally apart from the party “foisting” anything on us. You get no argument from me at all on the media helping McCain and now trying to help Daniels. I heard Rush yesterday (check tag line) and agree 100% with what he said.

IOW, his actual record is irrelevant to you. I'm becoming disgusted by the number of FReepers who resolutely rely more on ignorance and feelings, than on facts.

Apparently, Mr. Wright has a quibble with the word “foisting”, and trusts the national Republican Party machine completely. I don’t.

Please explain, then, why the mainstream media would be pushing Daniels as the candidate if it did not benefit the Democrat Party. Everything the mainstream media does benefits the Democrats.

Now come on, nothing I said even remotely indicates I trust the Republican Party.
ZIP ZERO NADA.

I simply disagree they have the power to “foist” a candidate on us. Uneducated voters are our problem, not some handful of power hungry elitists meeting in Karl Rove’s secret cave planning the end of conservative America.

For some reason you seem to believe his record is squeeky clean. Unfortunately, that position isn't true, he has some flaws in his record, just like all the potential GOP candidates. That he has some good things in his record is not the point either, the fact is, he won't be a good candidate nationally, not because of feelings but precisely because of the facts.

Short, boring, bald, and inconsistent (facts) is not a recipe for winning in an age that demands a candidate to show leadership, charisma and telegenic capacity.

You can pretend those things don't count, but they do.
