Millions of people die each year because of smoke from traditional cookstoves and open fires that rely on wood, dung or charcoal for fuel, according to the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves.

MILLIONS? Each year??
A statistic would be 1,230,000 - Millions each year is just hyperbole..........

Cutting down trees leaves open spaces with sunlight where grass and bushes can grow and feed grazing, browsing animals.

Anybody else besides me see yet another part of Atlas Shrugged being proven true (ie, the wasteful, no-return benefit help to the people’s states)?

Let me guess. “GE makes the ‘cleanest’ and ‘greenest’ stoves you can buy”. They’re doing commercials now.

“Julia Roberts and Hillary Clinton say providing cleaner burning stoves to developing countries could save lives and help the climate...”

That, and one sheet/square of toilet paper per poop, should do the trick of saving the planet and lives in the process...lol

People’s stoves are making the Earth warmer. Who’d a thunk it? I never thought I’d live in an age when ordinarily sensible people were paranoid about the climate.

Folks in Nepal heat with ox dung. Works great. What we need is more cows.

LOOKS LIKE CO2 is a VERY GOOD THING! Photosynthesis (English pronunciation: /foʊtoʊˈsɪnθəsɪs/; from the Greek φώτο- [photo-], "light," and σύνθεσις [synthesis], "putting together", "composition") is a process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, especially sugars, using the energy from sunlight. Photosynthesis occurs in plants, algae, and many species of bacteria, but not in archaea. Photosynthetic organisms are called photoautotrophs, since they can create their own food. In plants, algae, and cyanobacteria, photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide and water, releasing oxygen as a waste product. Photosynthesis is vital for all aerobic life on Earth. As well as maintaining the normal level of oxygen in the atmosphere, nearly all life either depends on it directly as a source of energy, or indirectly as the ultimate source of the energy in their food (the exceptions are chemoautotrophs that live in rocks or around deep sea hydrothermal vents). The rate of energy capture by photosynthesis is immense, approximately 100 terawatts, which is about six times larger than the power consumption of human civilization. As well as energy, photosynthesis is also the source of the carbon in all the organic compounds within organisms' bodies. In all, photosynthetic organisms convert around 100–115 teragrams of carbon into biomass per year. LOOKS LIKE CO2 is a VERY GOOD THING INDEED!

There was a time when stupidity such as this never would've been uttered -- outside of adolescence, perhaps -- much less published nationally.

It is the kind of thoughtless drivel that should inspire universal laughter and derision.

Yet, in today's world, it gets published...and we are asked to take it seriously.

This is NOT progress...

The title freaked me out. Glad I read the rest. I thought the US gov was going to force me to clean my oven and I would be fined/jailed if it weren't clean during their surprise "seal-ed" inspections.
BTW, I'm yearning for a pot belly stove.

BBIAB. I have to check if my mattress still has that tag.

My MIL cooked over an outdoor charcoal stove for some 87 years(assuming she started cooking at age 6). She also worked some 12 hours a day between the rice field, vegetable garden and chickens. The poor woman also kept a spotless house. Not understanding the oppression under which she lived, she was unfailingly happy and welcoming of visitors.

For that matter, during the first ten years of her marriage, my Mother cooked over a wood stove and pumped water and used kerosine lamps, all in the USA at small mining camps. If things go well, in 75 years, someone will be horrified at the privations we are undergoing.

"And cutting down trees for fuel causes natural habitats to dry up, forests to disappear and soil to erode.”

And what happens when we redirect food for use as a fossil fuel substitute? People starve Julia! Maybe you should stick to playing a whore in the movies. Being on Hillary's team could be dangerous to your health. Just ask Vince Foster.

Clean stoves, one sheet of toilet paper, wow there is a brain in that head of theirs, even though its malfunctioning most of the time.

We could ship the poorest of the poor countries top of the line stainless steel cook stove, and they would still fill them with camel dung.
