Groups of rebels in the insurgent-held Libyan city of Misrata have turned themselves in to government forces, state television reported on Sunday.
Al-Jamahiriya television gave no exact numbers but quoted a military spokesman as saying that some of those who had surrendered made recorded "confessions" which will be broadcast on television later.
Government forces destroyed four fuel storage tanks and set several others ablaze in Misrata on Saturday, dealing a blow to the port city's ability to withstand a government siege.
The attack on the western city came as artillery rounds fired by forces loyal to Muammar Gadhafi fell in Tunisia in an escalation of fighting near the border with rebels trying to end the embattled leader's rule of more than four decades.
Misrata, the last remaining city in the west under rebel control, has been under siege for more than two months and has witnessed some of the war's fiercest fighting.

MEMO TO (.)bama:
First rule of battle: Never wound a king, take him out or else.
Sounds like the end is near for Rebels in this city.
“Sounds like the end is near for Rebels in this city.”
Hopefully, then Kadaffi can turn his sites on Benghazi and be done with this mess.
We should have never been there to start with. If we had just let Ole Daffy finish the job, it would have been over long before now and the oil flows wouldn’t have been decreased.
How many billion and how many lives has this stupid illegal war cost, not to mention, what little creditability NATO had is now on the dung heap of history. De-fund the black hole called NATO.
Worse than that, that regime would survive the death of Gaddafi and would only be ended by invasion. Second rule of battle is that you can't win from 30,000 feet (one exception being modern economies like Serbia which can be trashed by taking out water, electricity, factories, etc)
I hope NATO doesn’t talk Barry into sending ground troops in at this point. We should have stayed out of this deal and let it play out. At this point we definitly should stay out of it.
The main problem is the NATO nations with the exception of the US, are simply “parade ground” military forces. Meaning they look good for coronations, visiting heads-of-state festivals but not much else. UK, France and Italy's bombing efforts have been so ineffective and inaccurate they are as likely to hit the rebels they support as hit Quadaffi’s forces. If they weren't going to land ground forces and remove Quadaffi that way, they shouldn't have bothered. And everyone knew that wasn't going to happen, the Europeans are way to casualty adverse. All that has happened now is NATO and us have now provided Quaddafi and reason to go back to his terrorist supporting and terrorist operation conducting ways! Libya thanks to the war and Iraq (Quadaffi quote,’ I don't want to end up like Hussein!’) had given up its nuclear weapons program, and was very cooperative in aiding us against Al-Quada and other Jihadi groups.(Remember the Iraq did find and stop a WMD program! It just wasn't in Iraq it was in Libya!) Now that Islamic Terror, Inc has an opening at the top, the Libyan fiasco my have rewritten Quadaffi’s resume so he can apply and be a top applicant!
Add this to your thinking. Just as Carter double crossed the Shah of Iran, paving the way for the terrorist war, so has Obama double crossed our few friends in the area to pave the way for the Muslim Underground to soon take over.
The main benefit of our bases in Germany and S. Korea is as forward operating bases. NATO’s time has passed other than that.
Yes we took a guy who was fairly low key as strong men dictators go and now he’s all ticked off. NATO is talking about putting in ground troops which means US troops. Obama has really gotten us into a bind this time. He needs to just walk away right now.
Well, if they surrendered to the government forces, shouldn’t Nato bomb them? Aren’t we supposed to be killing anybody who gives aide and comfort to the libyan government?
