I’ll take my chances. Thanks for your concern.
I have an M1 Carbine I traded for and repaired, with a scope mount and extra mags. Using hollow points, it’s credible at all the ranges you named. I routinely plink cans at 200 yards with it. And around the house it is a superb self-defense weapon. Now very reliable.

Not to mention dragging the kid to the pediatrician every time they sneeze, which exposes them to a lot more than at home.
Any idiot with 2 brain cells knows you don’t leave loaded guns laying around little toddlers, once they are big enough to be taught better than mess with a gun, the likihood of accidents at home are probably zero. Its the kid that’s never taught dog doo that picks up a gun and pulls the trigger because they’re curious.
When we registered my son into the doctor’s computer back in 2007 they asked if we had a gun in the home as part of his “risk” profile (along with cancer, diabetes, mental illness in the family, etc.).
I think the GE/IBM/Microsoft records are updated to the HHS and Government, and I replied, “no”.
Liberals want to usher terror, cartel crime and general mayhem into our lives so Government can “save” us, they are suicidal morons.
