Trump to China: “Listen, you motherf***ers, we’re going to tax you 25 percent”

Via Mediaite, which has excerpts from last night’s F-bomb cavalcade. One of our commenters in Headlines watched the clip and observed that Trump is basically a leftist caricature of Republicans brought to life. Precisely — but with the caveat that something like 20 percent of the GOP wants to embrace the caricature. (That number might already be slipping.) He knows he’s too compromised on conservative principles to get traction with the base so he overcompensates with tell-it-like-it-is populist bravado aimed at framing himself as the ultimate regular-guy outsider. Calling the Chinese MFers is the logical extension of that; if he can’t address economic anxieties with a serious policy solution, at least he can do it with rhetorical empowerment. That’s why Reagan, who did have a serious Cold War strategy, didn’t have to say “Tear down this motherf***ing wall” instead.

Just to follow up on the point about leftist caricature, though, I’m intrigued by this tidbit from his trip to New Hampshire:

I’ve been here for over 10 years, and all this time we’ve been lamenting how ‘nobody tells it like it is’, nobody really ‘puts it to them’.

Guess everybody was just blowing smoke.

He actually said that he would put a stop to the chinese imports(or make it too difficult for them to import)so that we would start making products here again and of course put people to work.

Would you really want a President to speak like that,I sure wouldn’t.

On my list of concerns about a presidential characteristics, this is way the f**k down near the bottom. Too much serious $h!t going on right now.

He’s speaking America’s bipartisan, liberaltarian language now. That will no doubt make him very popular with most voters.

He’s done. Comedians on late-night cable shows can be vulgar. Presidents should not be.

I also don’t buy into the lie that taxes on imports are anything other than taxes on Americans.

Decreasing corporate tax and regulation is how you ensure US make the stuff, not increase tax on American consumers.

You wrongly assume that 25% tax will mean less ppl will work for Mcdonald and less Chinese making everything. It will do the exact opposite. It simply mean US government will have 25% more taxes, and Americans have 25% less money to buy stuff

I watched nearly that whole speech. He did say taxing the Chinese and that they could bring their plants here. But nothing about his name brand clothes which are made in China as the media has salivated over. He said a whole lot of things that resonated with the crowd. Talked about the health care plan but no fixes, explained his donations to Democrats because he lives in NYC, the Saudi spiel again.

So he says he wants a lot of things being made here again, griped about having to buy "thousands" of tv's and opted to buy them from the South Koreans then groused about that. I remember when PBS did a special on the last TV company in America.

Nothing would make me happier than to bring jobs back (unless it would make the unions too uppity again which was part, but not all, of the problem). I fear it would be an uphill battle because he needs to address the root causes of why they left in the first place which are multiple. Then fight with environmental people. Then reverse trade agreements. He would need a great deal of help from Congress. So AFAIC it's just talk at this point.

I couldn't help wondering how a 25% tax would affect the economy because nearly all retailers are forced to sell made in China goods now. Why didn't somebody care when we started bleeding all these jobs? I sure did and think many others did, too, but put a lot of us in shock and caught offguard.

The profanity I could have done without, but sometimes that really gets peoples' attention in a manner no other language will.

I wonder how he gets along with Sam Walton or how that would play with him. I'm still bitter about what Wal Mart did, promising when they opened they advertised they would only stock "made with pride in America.", shortly became, if available, then you know the rest.

Good point. Down in the dirt, right at eye level with the leftist scum of the Democrat party. About time. Now we've got Trump, Palin, West, -- each taking it to the Dem party in their own way. Each still standing, strong as ever. Why, why why do the pantywaist cowards in the Republican party still quake in fear??
