I don't know the history here, but perhaps you or some other FReeper does. I remember that for years the RCAR (Religious Coalition for Abortion Rights) (I think they have another name now, something like Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice?) had their national headquarters at the United Methodist Building in Washington DC. The UM either donated or leased them the office space for decades.

RCAR's Chairman was Linda Bales Todd, General Board of Church and Society, United Methodist Church.

Is that still going on? Has the UMC's "official" stance been pro-life all this time?

The leadership of the UMC is made up of liberal politicians. That’s been true for as long as I can remember. The liberals in the UMC make the most noise while the conservatives just quietly leave. That’s why the liberals have so much power.
