Did you notice when Steponallofus mentioned the five soldiers killed in Afghanistan recently, President Bush said his heart went out to each family that lost a loved one and that the loss of each life is a tragedy.

It is an unusual way to talk, especially when asked about a group, but it preserves each of the lost as an individual.

It is telling that President Bush, even when casually sitting around, makes that effort. It shows his reflexive respect for the people in uniform. Can you imagine our current Commander in Chief, with his lazy and imprecise rhetorical constructions, making such an effort?
