Ron Paul Launches Presidential Campaign (Drudge: He's In!)
National Journal ^

Posted on 04/26/2011 4:22:54 AM PDT by quesney

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, whose outspoken libertarian views and folksy style made him a cult hero during two previous presidential campaigns, will announce on Tuesday that he's going to try a third time.

Sources close to Paul, who is in his 12th term in the House, said he will unveil an exploratory presidential committee, a key step in gearing up for a White House race. He will also unveil the campaign’s leadership team in Iowa, where the first votes of the presidential election will be cast in caucuses next year.

Meet the GOP's Potential Candidates

Paul, 75, ran as the Libertarian Party candidate in 1988, finishing with less than one half a percent of the vote. After more than a decade as a Republican congressman,

Paul gave it another shot in the 2008 presidential election, gaining attention for being the only Republican candidate calling for the end to the war in Iraq and for his “money bomb” fundraising strategy, which brought in millions of dollars from online donors in single-day pushes.

Paul took 10 percent of the vote in the Iowa caucuses and 8 percent in New Hampshire’s primary. He finished second, with 14 percent of the vote, in the Nevada caucuses, and eventually finished fourth in the Republican nominating process with 5.6 percent of the total vote. Paul’s campaign book, The Revolution: A Manifesto also reached No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list in 2008.

This would seem to be an ideal year for Paul: Since the last election, the Republican Party has moved much closer to his view on deficit reduction, which made him an early tea party favorite. All of the party's top-tier presidential hopefuls are focusing on lowering debt, government spending, and tax rates, issues Paul has long advocated.

It would be fun, but I’m betting FR might actually purge the Paul supporters.

Oh, I just can't see Jim doing that.

First, there really aren't that many of the Paulbots and secondly, their entertainment value alone is priceless, especially during the stress of an election season.

With Paul announcing for President we’ll be treated to the endless paulbot spam that infects all manner of forums...

Yep, the Swarm-n-Spam technique.

You're right; they're annoying but they can also be amusing sometimes.

At least he’ll make it interesting what with his >1% support and no delegates.

Ron Paul ... a real choice and a real opportunity

In the space of 24 hours, Rep. Ron Paul (R., Texas) has voted for tax hikes, against censure for Charlie Rangel, and defended Julian Assange.

Ron Paul votes to homosexualize the US Military

Ron Paul hearts Debra Medina

Ron Paul: Ground Zero Mosque Opponents are “Islamophobes.”

No Thanks LRon. You are No choice. And No opportunity.

I thought I corrected my sentence. Sorry you didn’t understand.

I can’t answer your “do you still beat your wife?” question. Your premise is wrong. Paul doesn’t blame the US for (the existence of) Islamic terrorism. Do you really believe that? Much terrorism isn’t even directed at the US. They hate other countries too.

Do you know what blowback is? It is real, not imaginary. We must always consider it and weigh potential consequences against our actions, then decide if it’s all worth it. Maybe our actions would be worth the pre-considered consequences, maybe not.

Someone upthread said something about blaming a scantily clad woman for being raped. Well of course no one blames her, but we do need to make smart choices based on reality. If some guy down the street is a known perv and suspected rapist, even though it is my right to walk back and forth in front his house in a bikini, I won’t do it, because I know of the risk. Seems like common sense.

Paul thinks that having military bases in extremist Muslim territory isn’t worth the real consequences. Is it?

I wonder if he'll have a separate convention like he did last election?

Anything for attention.

I like Sarah. A LOT however I’d like to find out in what ways her views on illegal immigration differ from John McCains. So far they seem pretty similar.

The Eugene Debs of the right, minus the prison time....so far.

The sad thing is probably 75% of FReepers don't know who Eugene Debs is, and 95% of the general population don't know who he is.

This is how our country elects an Obama, no education!!!

Great reference you are 100% on, Paul is the Eugene Debs of our time.

Do you believe that the muslims do NOT already hate us for A) our freedoms B) our number one export to their nations (hollywood movies which to them is porn)?

And while I as a Christian support Israel, it would be the height of naivete to believe that the sand people DON’T hate us for that.

Yes, many millions of them hate us for Iraq as well but it goes back many many years. I think that a lot of our meddling in their world was mean’t to be in our best interest. I do not believe there was an ounce of malice behind it however with people like the jawas, intent is rarely as important as is “Can I use this as an excuse to lop off some heads?”

So in a way, Ron Paul was right. But only in the following way; If your two year old behaves badly and gets a swat on the behind then proceeds to throw a tantrum and break mommies’ expensive vase that daddy got her on his travels abroad.....in Ron Paul world, mommy gave the child a reason to do it.

In my world, this would result in a much more severe ass whipping and a talking to about boundaries but then I am not a pot smoking, free love losertarian.

Ron Paul is the worst thing that could happen to this country. I'd rather have 4 more years of Zero than a complete whack job.

Do you know who is strongest support base is?

Drug Addicts.

Because Paul is for "legalization". We already have a stupid population and Ron Paul wants to legalize drugs so that morons can dope up at will.

Anyone here with at least somewhat of an education will realize that there is another person who has poured millions of dollars towards legalization. His name is George Soros.

So a vote for Ron Paul is a vote for George Soros.
