It’s interesting to note that on the COLB the father’s race is given as AFRICAN. I wonder if in preparing the COLB someone was bribed to insert his nationality in the area reserved for race—an “honest mistake” if it were ever found out. In the early 1960s, “negro” would have been the proper racial designation.

This sticks out like a sore thumb on the CertificationOLB. Just like Dan Rather's typo. Referring to a black person as African anything is a modern thing. Back then it would have most certainly been negro as that was the accepted term worldwide. There were not that many choices in the 60’s for race. Based on that, my race is North American.
