With his rise in popularity Donald Trump has now started to have to defend himself against Republicans who think that his focus on the birther issue is going to hurt the party. This includes Karl Rove, who recently called Trump a "joke candidate."
Now you can add former RNC chairman Michael Steele, who appeared on Hardball last night and dismissed the birther issue as "silly," to that list.
"Rank and file Republicans don't give a rat's giblet let about the birther issue."

There is a HUGE effort being directed at shutting up and minimalizing those daring to ask questions, and that, in itself, should be telling people something.
It is rather amusing that these fools are going on record about was is “silly” just before Jerome Corsi’s book on the subject comes out. At least Rove was smart enough to tone his birther comments down substantially over the last few days realizing what might be coming...

Obama withheld his birth certificate and other personal records to get elected by using race as a distraction - anyone who questioned anything was labeled a racist. Once he was in office, the heat started getting turned up - czars, bailouts, stimulus, cap & tax, immigration — all the socialist programs came in and yet only a few realized the water was getting pretty warm, and they were ignored. Now, after 3 years this guy Trump comes along and seems to be the only one who has a thermometer. As soon as he starts talking about it openly, everyone realizes it’s become pretty hot around here!
And now comes Michael Steele saying “Hey stop it with that silly hot water stuff...no one cares a rat’s giblet about what the water temperature is”.
If you can’t decide who to believe, just ask yourself this question: Are we in hot water, or not?
