Sounds like a collectors opportunity to me. I wonder which model? If it's the 19 I hope to be able to get another one like the one I stupidly sold a few years back.
Sold my Illinois State Police Model 19 for $300 bucks. I'm an idiot......
I assume these guns were originally made in the USA so like the swallows to Capistrano they are just returning home.
Probably Model 66’s or 65’s, although 19’s would be nice.
Cool....but Melissa Sweet is a friggin idiot an needs to STFU ....she don’t even rank up to presstitute level with her ignorance ......
Thanks for the ping....have to keep an eye on J&G ad’s.
Even if they were never fired in the line of duty, wouldn't they have hundreds of rounds put through them at the range? Unless Australian police are supplied (like Barney Fife) with just one bullet, then I call BS on Melissa Sweet.
Patrol officers of the South Australian Police (SAPOL) currently use the Model 19 Smith & Wesson .38 with a 4" barrel, or the more easily concealable Model 66 S & W with the 2½" barrel. As in all police forces around the country, those accepted for induction into SAPOL undergo comprehensive firearms instruction during the Constable Development Program.
Hundreds of rounds would not be much for a model 19. The could take a few thousand full power .357 loads before they started to loosen up and require re-timing, or at least that was the accepted wisdom 20 years ago. It seems likely that the Australian police used .38 rounds for practicing, and the model 19 might take a hundred thousand of them before having problems.
Bud’s Gun Shop has a new shipment of S&W Model 10’s in 4” and 3” from the Victoria Police Armoury. These usually sell out pretty fast. I picked up a 3” model for $269.00 shipped.
