They fought a great war and sacrificed greatly, then they came home and screwed up our country. Let’s say they were great in their youth.
That is true.
I always found that troubling. They fought the good fight, came home and stopped fighting. Gave in to more socialism. Voted more of it in. Didn’t care to believe that commies WERE all over the government. Ignored it all.
I, looking back, can only think that they were so happy when they won, they didn’t care as much what happened to their own country. That the very thing they fought against was slowly winning the day, here.
I don’t see that “they” screwed up our country. My parents thought SS was a scam, and they weren’t the only ones I heard say it. My parents never held FDR out to be the hero that many did- they thought his social programs were going to ruin the country, and made the same points later about LBJs Great Society. Just as we have little control over the mess our politicians are creating- they had the same problems.
Most of them believed you bought one home, paid for it before retirement and built up savings for your children’s education and retirement. They did not believe in going into debt for anything but business or home ownership. Most stayed married and raised the children together with the mother staying home to be there for the children. Most lived frugally to make everything work and taught their children worth ethic, morality, not to be dependent on others, and many other valuable life lessons.
I have no idea why many baby boomers raised by the GG turned out badly, but the fact that many are trying desperately to change the direction our country is headed means not all turned out to be marxist, socialist, immoral, lazy people.
