Thousands of Palestinians Leave West Bank for Jordan

In the last few years, life under the Israeli occupation has prompted thousands of Palestinians to leave their homes in the West Bank and take up residence in neighboring Jordan. They go in search of a normal life, free of army checkpoints and conflicts with Israeli settlers. Life in a luxurious suburb of Amman is much brighter than what Shahinda El Kilani left behind in her native West Bank town of Hebron... El Kilani and her family are building a new house, and a new life in Jordan. They are among the thousands of wealthy Palestinians holding Jordanian citizenship who have left the West Bank to make their homes in Amman. Palestinians make up between 50 and 80 per cent of the population in Jordan, and hold government posts... An online petition is circulating that calls on King Abdullah to to declare Jordan a Palestinian state.

With the joker in the White House, it’s no surprise that this is a low-key hit piece on Israel.

I once heard George Will state that there already was a Palestinian state, it is called Jordan. So, I think you may be right.

My problem with reading this article is the emphasis they place on the reason being the Israeli "occupation". No mention of how the PLO/Hamas people who are running things are doing a terrible job for the people who live there. Now, I tend not to feel very sorry for the people in this situation, since they voted for these people to run things. I just wish whoever wrote this article could have expanded their viewpoint a little to include the failure of those two groups to do anything to help the lives of the people living there, and how that might be an impetus for them to be relocating to Jordan.

Let's see how these people enjoy living under Jordanian rule. All of a sudden being under Israeli "oppression" ain't so bad.

I pray this will be a one way trip.

If the truth were told, it would read more like: Some “Palestinians” have tired of trying to annihilate their neighbors in the name of Allah and find that living next door to Islamic terrorists is not always desirable.

From what I've read the Palestinians have lived in and been "kicked out of" Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon et al and are where they are today because that's where Arabs want them...warring to annihilate Jews.

I think the whole article is a fairy tale.

Don't think for one minute that the current King Abdullah II of Jordan has forgotten what the Palestinians of the PLO under Yasser Arafat tried to do. Arafat decided to use his PLO to stage a coup against his father King Hussein.

Arafat intended to murder the royal family and setup his own government. Unfortunately for Arafat and the PLO, King Hussein learned of the coup and turned the full fury of the Jordanian Army loose on the Palestinians in September 1970.

The Jordanian Army was doing a great job of exterminating Arafat and his band of thugs and murderers, until Arafat called on the UN to broker a cease fire. Arafat and his PLO were allowed to leave Jordan (with their weapons!) and were taken in by Lebanon.

Once in Lebanon, Arafat and his PLO started undermining the Lebanese government. He was successful and plunged Lebanon onto a civil war (1975 to 1990) that saw Syria occupy 1/3 of the country.

If King Abdullah lets these Palestinians back into Jordan, they will be under VERY CLOSE scrutiny.

The tone of the story is that this is a negative thing. Maybe because living in Amman, it’s a longer commute to work threatening Israelis.

Good article but it fuzzes over the fact that Jordan is Arab Palestine.

They note that a high percentage of Jordanians are Palestinians but that shouldn’t be surprising since Jordan is Arab Palestine. Israel is Jewish Palestine; Jordan is Arab Palestine.

The Jordanian royal family is from Mecca; they are from what is now Saudi Arabia, so they may not want to remind people that they, the royals, are foreigners there but Palestinians belong there.

"There is security. There is stability. There is no fear. My children can go out anytime, without my being worried about them,"

No kidding. Jordan is under control of an actual government. The arab west bank is ruled by Fatah and Gaza is ruled by Hamas. People who choose to be ruled by these thugs are complicit in their own misery.

The is where the nomadic bedouins should’ve landed in the first place in 1948 instead of the small piece that Israel got. But their Muslim Brothers slammed their borders shut on them. And since haven’t so much as thrown a sandwich over their fences. The nomadic bedouins were always scammers and travelling schemers and nobody wanted them, except of course to be used to lob rockets at Israel now that the Muslims have our oil money to provide them.

“They go in search of a normal life, free of army checkpoints and conflicts with Israeli settlers.”

A situation made ONLY a point of conflict and contention by the behavior of the Palestinian terrorists who leave Israel and it’s security forces with the necessary obligations that every-day Palestinians can find nettlesome. Without that terrorism, peaceful administration of the West Bank would be possible, no matter who was in charge.

If Palestinians who leave the West Bank want to blame anyone, they can blame all their own leaders who have in the past, and who continue, to support the terrorism against the state of Israel.
