So what are folk’s thoughts on this guy? I have read both good and bad and cannot form an opinion based upon what I have read to date.

I like him he is a fiscal conservative. I just found that immigration article on him and it sounds like he is backing off on immigration laws of Az. for votes but that article was from the huffy post; so who knows?

Better than anyone who ran last time, Duncan Hunter aside.

He's not afraid to take stands that piss people off, which is good. He thinks conservatives are people, which is good. Unfortunately, that means he's not afraid to piss conservatives off.

Kind of a GWB type who wants to balance the budget.

He's not perfect, but he's got the right priorities and a personal demeanor that in the current political environment will probably win him fans.

He's also somebody who can plausibly run on a fiscal responsibility platform, and can attract the political middle.

Not exciting, but very likeable. Is willing to say hard things and can back them up.

To get a sense of him, I'd recommend the following two videos (90 minutes of viewing, total):

Daniels at CPAC, and Daniels Q&A on CSPAN.

He’s not my ideal candidate, but I think he is the definition of “electable”.

He comes across as a competent, intelligent grown-up, which I think many Americans will be looking for in 2012.

The guy is well know for his statement pushing for a "truce" on social issues before the last election.

These miscreants who say we should wait on defending conservative social issues in deference to sound fiscal policy issues will, in fact, never get around to fighting for conservative social issues. Ever. Because they aren't really conservatives.
