Trump says he’d probably run as independent if he doesn’t win Republican nomination

Donald Trump will “probably” run as an independent candidate for U.S. President in 2012 if he does not receive the Republican party’s nomination, he told the Wall Street Journal in a video interview on Monday. …

“I am very conservative,” said Mr. Trump. “The concern is if I don’t win [the GOP primary] will I run as an independent, and I think the answer is probably yes.” Mr. Trump said he thought he “could possibly win as an independent,” adding, “I’m not doing it for any other reason. I like winning.”

As for foreign policy, Mr. Trump said he is “only interested in Libya if we take the oil,” and that if he were President, “I would not leave Iraq and let Iran take over the oil.” He remains sharply critical of the Chinese, asserting that as President, “I would tell China that you’re either going to shape up, or I’m going to tax you at 25% for all the products you send into this country.”

Thought he wasn't even going to declare for about another few weeks until June 1st. Well he runs 3rd party that might be a mess on our hands. Also he is business dealings aren't the best. From the article:

"The only difference between Trump and H. Ross Perot seems to be that Perot was a better businessman. About four minutes into the interview, Kelly Evans hits Trump on his flirtations with bankruptcy over the years. Trump insists that he never filed for bankruptcy, which is true in terms of his personal finances, although Trump came close enough to it. His businesses were another matter. Trump’s Taj Mahal casino had to go through bankruptcy, which cost Trump half of the casino. The Trump Plaza Hotel next went through bankruptcy, which caused him to lose 49% of the hotel and resign from its management. Two years ago, Trump Entertainment Resorts filed for Chapter 11, and in 2008 his Trump International Tower in Chicago defaulted on a $40 million loan. In response, Trump blamed the global economic collapse and tried to have it declared an Act of God to relieve himself of responsibility for the default. That’s not exactly a great track record for a chief executive. It’s worth noting that his own investors have booted him from management at these holdings after his risk-taking and failures."

There is also a video at the link of his interview.

He should go for a trifecta and announce he’s running as a democrat as well.

Trump is working for the Clintons. Doing the dirty work that they can't. Trump is doing it as a "republican" He has the dirt on Obama and will drip it out , clearing the way for Hillary to save the day and run in 2012 in Obama's place and get the black vote fired up by blaming the demise of the first black President on republicans. Trump endorsed Clinton in 08 , the Clintons elevated Trumps sister on the federal courts when Bill was President.

He should. While I like some of the issues he has raised, Trump should not run 3rd party and I do not support him. I am for Michelle Bachmann at the moment.

LOL That would be in keeping with Trump’s unprincipled political past.

H Ross Perot reincarnated. Forget him. Perot gave Clinton four more years and Trump would guarantee Obama four more years.

Like Perot (closet Democrat)that may what he wants.

Karl Rove says Bachmann has no chance but she’s got my vote. I doubt West will even consider a run till at least 2016 but he would be my ideal.

The GOP has two choices:

Run a Free Trade Commie/Commie Chinese loving Liberal who wants Open Borders, Illegal Alien Amnesty, NAFTA, North American Union, and refuses to challenge Obama on his eligibility.....then blame Ross Perot and Donald Trump for losing during the next 20 years.

OR

Run a real conservative

The latter beats Obama and Trump. The former means Obama or Trump is the next president

Trump is not the problem...the real problem is GOP Liberals, and the Liberal RINOs and GOP Media that push them

If he runs third party, it’s a fair guess that he is in it to siphon votes from the Republican candidate. It is the one thing that will pretty much guarantee a second Obama term. Of course this is just my conspiracy paranoia oozing out.

He probably will. I refuse to jump on The Donald bandwagon. That arrogant ass would ruin our country.

Who knows? There might not be a Republican Party by then anyway. It wasn’t looking too good just a few months ago.

Rove needs to go soak his head. He’s already on record working against a Republican nominee.

As noted by another FReeper, Trump might consider stirring the pot a bit more by announcing he’d like to run on the DEMOCRAT ticket.

This is a very plausible analysis. Trump owes the Clinton's and certainly have something damaging on him, so one hand will wash the other. The problem with such a high stakes play is the sheer volatility of the events it can let loose. Detonating a big enough scandal to drive a sitting president from running for a second term could unleash the kind of spontaneous firestorm that would destroy any donkey party candidates chances in 2012.

H. Ross Trump! Kewl. I am getting used to having an ineligible POTUS, anyway.

Let's not overreact here. H. Ross Trump will only siphon off about 10% of the Republican vote. That way, the Mombasa Moonbeam can win with 40%. Let's see, that's the "Urban Vote," the Girls, coupla gays .... by Jove, he's got it.

I would institute a 25% tax on all products made in China.” Trump insists that the mere threat of such an excise tax may deter the Chinese from their avaricious appetite for manipulating currency and stealing technological secrets.

“I believe in free trade, but it has to be fair trade,” Trump stated emphatically. “We lose $300 billion a year dealing with China. That’s not the kind of free trade that I’m talking about.”

beating up on China is populist and neat, but China didn’t spend us into oblivion. Congress did.
