Charles Krauthammer: Paul Ryan’s ‘suicide note’
OC Register ^ | April 07, 2011 | CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER

Posted on 04/10/2011 1:47:05 PM PDT by ding_dong_daddy_from_dumas

In 1983, the British Labor Party under the hard-left Michael Foot issued a 700-page manifesto so radical that one colleague called it "the longest suicide note in history." House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan has just released a recklessly bold, 73-page, 10-year budget plan. At 37 footnotes, it might be the most annotated suicide note in history.

Don't be misled by the title. Krauthammer says the ultimate fate of Ryan's budget proposal depends on several factors, including whether "Americans are serious people." My comment: If they are not serious, we are doomed anyway.

Lets nor leave out messaging. The Pubs have the weakest response team in the in the game . By that i mean none. We Reid , Pelosi and a list of lefty moonbats can accuse their party of attempted murder and that brings no respone , they look weak . More than anything America hates weakness in their spokespeople . When the going gets tough the weaklings will abandon Ryan and issue a heartfelt apology . Beyond contemptible .

...whether "Americans are serious people."

That question was, unfortunately, answered in 2008.

Dana Perino is as important for the right as Kirsten Powers if for the left. She’s isn’t influential.

Crankhammar seems to have gone stupid..
Any that think the TpCaucus is a small group are delusionary..
Not only that but they(TP) cannot be measured..
Polls prove nothing and are wholly propaganda..

2010 was a dress rehearsal for the main event in 2012..

Plus, as Krauthammer wrote in the article, it depends on whether (b) there are any Republicans beyond the measured, super-wonky Ryan who can explain and defend a plan of such daunting scope and complexity,

Isn’t Krauthammer a Democrat? He is classified as a conservative because he is for a strong defense and supports the war against Islamic terrorism, but he doesn’t necessarily wish the Republican Party well.

I think Kraut’s got that confused with the 2000 page Obamacare bill that Pelosi and Reid shat out over a year ago. That was the suicide note for an entire nation.

I hope you are right, but let's not assume it will be easy. It's not wise to oversimplify a complex political battle. Obama has already started to try to do to Boehner what Clinton did to Gingrich. Let's hope Obama fails.

Too late. So far the responses seem to be to the title. It would help if people would actually read the articles before commenting on them, but I wouldn't hold my breathe for that.

The American people have lived too long with paying no price. They now think that the whole thing is a bluff. Money grows on trees and it will always keep pouring in.

People have lived on charge cards buying up things they cannot afford. That is how they were drawn in to this scam.

Now they feel that there is always a way out and that the gravy train will keep on rolling.

Never hurts to go for the best, Charles, if you get half, it is better than nothing.

But anyone that thinks just winning the House in 2010 gives the GOP control of the purse strings, they are fooling themselves. When we failed to get the Senate majority, we were left only being able to sell a promise of what we could do. It would take another election of winning big to make a dent in this nightmare.

True. We cannot simply overthrow everyone every six months. We have to work again in the primaries and get MORE Tea Party candidates into office. Voter ID is the next battle, IMHO.

What's funny is Krauthammer has more intellectual prowess in his little finger than all the talking heads on FOX News pout together

I find it amazing the way he is so easily dismissed by Freepers because he says something that is not in lockstep with their views.

You can hardly go wrong following his thoughts and positions. he also as well will admit when he is wrong, which is a rare thing.

"But anyone that thinks just winning the House in 2010 gives the GOP control of the purse strings..."

In fact, the House does control the purse strings. The only question is whether they are willing accept the consequences of their choices.

The House could set aside any budget proposal from Obama and craft their own budget and pass it. They have no obligation to consider anything Obama submits.

The rest of the government may not like it. The Senate may not pass it, and Obama may not sign it, but then at least it's clearly their choice not to fund the government.

The mistake the Repblican House is making is accepting Obama's proposal as the baseline, to which anything less is a "cut". The Constitution gives no budgeting role to the President.
