Norton says Democrats sold out D.C. in spending deal
The Washington Times ^ | April 9, 2011 | Stephen Dinan

Washington’s representative to Congress said Saturday she feels like the city was the victim of a “sellout” by Democrats in Friday night’s spending negotiations after the District of Columbia was the focus for two of the biggest policy fights.

President Obama signed off on restricting the city from using its own taxpayer money to fund abortions, and agreed to restore the city’s school voucher program, which is popular with parents but opposed by many elected officials.

“We knew that the House Republicans were on the attack when they took our vote in the Committee of the Whole on the first day of this Congress. What we did not anticipate was that the administration and Senate Democrats would roll over and use our right to self-govern as a bargaining chip,” said Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, a Democrat and the city’s non-voting representative in Congress.

In a sternly worded statement Saturday afternoon Mrs. Norton said city residents have “every reason to be angry” with the White House and Senate Democrats. She said she didn’t even know the restrictions were accepted until she saw it in press reports.

The city is overwhelmingly Democratic — the most so of any of the 51 jurisdictions that has a vote in the electoral college.

As a federal district defined by the Constitution, the city’s funding is subject to congressional approval, and Congress has frequently intervened to control policies in the District.

This witch stood there and railed against the very idea of restoring the scholarships to the poor black children in D.C.

It was such a sickening display of pure evil.

I highly doubt that a vast majority of DC residents support school choice. Look at for whom they vote!

Can you imagine a woman wanting the children of her city slaughtered and the thought of them actually being born is a sell out?

Isa 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

It is hard to imagine but this woman is pure evil.

The families who benefit from the school choice program know who their friends are. Problem is, there are not enough of them.

If more DC residents understood Democrats’ contempt for them, including their children, the RATS would be repudiated with disgust.

Abortion mills and unions come first with RATS. Everything else is secondary.

If people want abortions let them pay for it. Nobody’s getting in the way of letting them pay for their own abortions.

It is wrong to say government (ie all the rest of us) must fund everyone else’s desires.

Really it’s time to end government funding for most things and let people get the money themselves legally somehow to pay for what they want.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s more than disgraceful that every time someone says they can’t afford something they want they expect taxpayers to foot the bill for it.

I moved to Arlington (from overseas) in January of 2010. The District (across the river) is like Bolivia....a third-world country...loaded with corruption, murder, incompetency, and wasted lives. All my life...I had this historical impression of DC....and it’s mostly gone now except the capital district where the memorials lay. A guy could write the daily happenings around the district and you’d shock America with the various things accepted as “normal”.

Who let the demagogues out? An army of Rats is showing up in the media today wailing about the horrible, extremist, catastrophic, life-threatening cuts those evil Republicans extorted from our innocent, saintly, naive young President.

It's propaganda designed to implant the notion that any further cuts in 2012 will be the end of the world. It'll probably work, too. Everyone wants cuts and lower taxes just as long as their own government-provided rice bowl isn't touched. The Rats are experts at exploiting voters' selfishness.

I can not remember the details but her husband resigned from the Klinton administration in protest.

Long ago.

it’s funny, while everyone here was pissing and moaning about the Repubs having caved last night I went over to the DUmp and they were saying the same thing about the Dems.

They control the Senate and the WH and they still gave into “Rethugs”...DUmmies can count to three, at least.

Yep, the Rats are out in force and the enemedia is more than happy to trumpet their garbage.

You’re right, this is aimed at shutting down further cuts to programs in the 2012 budget. The Repubs must get really serious about this in the new budget, with the election just in front of them they just might.

Begala bighead seemed awful giddy last night on CNN. When he’s happy you know the conservatives (and America) got the scroogie countersink torque applied.

I mean, let them ask their churches or local aid groups. Ask Planned Parenthood for a freebie. Throw a fundraiser for a worthy cause. People do it all the time to raise money for things. Sell stuff you don’t need anymore. Work another job. Get a better job. Drop cable. Get a less expensive used car. Stop eating out. Ask your liberal politicians for a handout from their own wallets. Send letters to your liberal stars and icons for money to help you.

Good grief ask for help on craigslist. Some people have actually done that. I have helped one person I could verify was genuine with part of a bill they had as I could donate it to the place they owed the money directly.

The people who then want to help you, will then help you on their own, at whatever level they want to contribute.

Wish they had tossed in requiring a popular vote on gay marriage in D.C. as well. There was no “self government” on that issue.
