believe that makes a total of 88.5 billion in cuts in the 2011 budget. Pretty fair. worth at least a “C” grade. And I think we’re positioned pretty well for the debt limit battle and the 2012 budget battle too. As you said strategery is important.

Yeah, that's true. They said 100 billion, they got it to 88 billion. Not the worst showing. Some very poor showing on the riders, but hey, maybe those were throwaways to begin with....

Overall, not too far from the promise.

Many Freepers won't be happy, absolutely, but strategy IS important, and picking battles DOES win wars, and The Perfect should NEVER be the enemy of Progress.

I would say Boehner didn’t strike out, he hit an infield single.

Correct. It amazes me how many Freepers believe we could get everything we want".

They don't get that we hold only the House, not the Senate, or Oval office. They gripe, but never come up with a coherent plan about how to get what they want through the Senate.

Sometimes we tend to forget the reality of politics.

Still would’ve preferred Planned Parenthood to be defunded though.

So did they defund Obamacare or not? I have heard two stories on that.

Your spin on this has been overwhelming. Do you really believe that losing every battle is the way to position yourself for winning the war? Nonsense. Since the November elections the Republicans have given in time after time after time. The Dems are laughing their asses off at them. What incentive will they have for even considering Ryan's budget? They'll just keep telling the Republicans to stick it, like they did tonight.

With no leadership, the Republicans are floundering. The elections have brought no change just politics as usual. Bush/Rove "strategery" was just a cover for accepting liberal policies. The type of strategy you mention is no different.

In spite of all the whining here on this thread, I agree that this is a pretty good showing. Many of the riders will be voted on as separate bills later, so some blue dog democrats will have their true colors shown if they don't vote for the riders. I can live with this.

I don’t understand why so many FReepers are blaming this budget deal on Boehner. It’s not his fault, and there’s only so much the House Republicans can do about it, until the GOP retakes the senate and the White House. The huge deficit isn’t Boehner’s fault, it’s the results of all the dumbed-down, uninvolved, uninformed Americans who voted for Obama in 2008 and voted for democrats for the senate in 2008 and 2010. It’s the dolts who reelected people like Boxer and Reid who are the problem here.

If the House Republicans tried to hold out for more, the government would shut down and while fiscal conservatives would applaud that shut down, 70% of Americans would oppose the shut down and then of course, the news media would spin the whole thing as being caused by the “extreme draconian budget cuts” that Republicans demanded and the democrats refused to go along with, to save the children. The GOP would even up getting blamed for the shut down by most dumbed-down voters and the whole incident would hurt us in the 2012 elections. The problem is this folks: we didn’t win enough elections in 2006, 2008, and 2010. Rumsfeld screwed up the post-invasion tactics in Iraq. Bush let Rumsfeld run the war when he should have let the Joint Chiefs run it, then the resulting casualties played right into the MSM’s hands and they used it to thump the GOP in 2006. Bush also screwed up by making sub-prime mortgage standards too lax and not understanding the risk of mortgage defaults to the economy. Republicans have made mistakes and we’ve paid the price in election defeats. (Just for the record, I do believe Bush had the right philosophy and strategy on almost every issue, but his tactical implementation of strategy was seriously flawed on Iraq and the US economy.)

So now we have to counter-attack and win more elections, retake the senate and the White House. Then we can pass Ryan’s budget plan and Zero won’t be there to veto it. So will you all please stop blaming Boehner...at least he won his election to the House the last three times.
