MESQUITE, Texas - A YouTube video of a police officer using pepper spray on a baby squirrel has sparked outrage in the city of Mesquite, Tx.

A student recorded the incident. In the video, the officer is seen spraying the animal after it began chasing students around at Kimbrough Middle School.

Students are heard begging the cop, reffered to as Officer Davis on the video, to stop with cries of "No!" and "Don't spray him!"

Mesquite Police Department has defended the officer's actions.

Sgt. Wes Talley said the officer stood between a group of students and the animal because he thought it may have been rabid.

That squirrel is lucky he isn’t an adult a dog. The office would have shot him then.

Punish a cat for being a predator? No. Cats are obligate carnivores, without meat they will die.

It is the nature of the cat to be a predator, and of a squirrel to be prey.

Was I sad? Yes. Was I angry? Yes. Do I miss Mr Flibble? Yes, still.

I have fond memories of her curled up asleep in the toe of my shoe, of her flailing around while being bottle fed, of having to unzip to get her out after she crawled up my leg, of her riding my shoulder.

I am happy that I was able to take a blind little ball of fluff and raise it to an adult functional squirrel. I gave her months of life that the crows would have denied her.

Most important, I gave the that most precious of all things, freedom.

She enjoyed her freedom, she gloried in it, she died free.

It was worth it.

Only because you mistake freedom for vice and liberty for license.

“This language at the present day would appear as wild as a great part of what we now hear from the same quarter will be thought, when we shall have received further lessons from that best oracle of wisdom, experience. It at all times betrayed an ignorance of the true springs by which human conduct is actuated, and belied the original inducements to the establishment of civil power. Why has government been instituted at all? Because the passions of men will not conform to the dictates of reason and justice, without constraint.”

Good grief son...

Thank your for documenting the fact that you cannot even read or comprehend what you have previously posted.

As I and many more on this thread have pointed out to you, you contradict yourself over and over. You seem to only be able to split hairs providing little if any substantive facts to support you claims and you still act like a 14 year old... resorting to ad hominem when you can’t debate facts.

So go take a reading comprehension class or two, a highschool level debate class then come back, after you have grown up and calmed down. Are no longer so damn angry that someone dare attack your beloved profession that you can’t see straight and try reading what you have written again.

When that little light finally comes on in your head I’m sure it will be your epiphany moment.

Squirrels don’t react the same way other creatures do.

Squirrels, when humans approach them, will try to run to the nearest tree. Their biggest problem is that they have trouble deciding which tree to run to. They will run one direction, then about face and run the other way. Goofy, kind of. Does make them hard to catch as they are unpredictable.

This squirrel somehow got into the school. It was trying to find a tree, and there isn’t one. Since the school was crowded with people, the squirrel didn’t know where to run, and kept darting here and there in an effort to find a way back out to a tree. Finding no tree, his only defense was to try and scare off any human. That would explain why he appeared to be attacking kids.

I walk around the neighborhood every day, and watch the squirrels and what they do as I approach. The only thing probably ‘wrong’ with the squirrel is that he somehow got ‘inside’ the school.

Uh huh... nice job at projecting. I find it hilarious that after you are confronted with your lies, you find it so hard to escape, you just deny reality.

Here is reality. The only thing you can do is to rant on a message board, because you are utterly powerless to do anything IRL. Thus, you retreat to the anonymity of the internet to pretend that you have some power over others, the power that you desperately crave, when the plain reality is that you are utterly powerless.

In the end, You’ll still get a ticket if you break the traffic laws, you’ll still go to jail if you smoke pot. Not a thing you can do about it. Ranting on a message board about the evil police (TM) isn’t going to change the fact that because you live in a society, you voluntarily cede power to society as a condition of living in it.

I’d tell you to read Blackstone, Burke and Locke, but seeing as how you cannot even comprehend basic numbers and the words “full time”, it would be a complete waste of your time.

Okay Freedom...

IIRC you once said you’re a cop, so I’ll go with that for now.

Based upon your display (here) of a seriously lack of reading comprehension skills, the inability to logically collect, process and interpret information. Assess the information you have collected then articulate that information truthfully and correctly, I can now see now why so many people are wrongfully arrested by the police.

This point, this by you... this is exactly why I am constantly pointing out police misconduct and the crimes committed by your brothers and sisters in uniform. Because it seems to be the case across the board. That cops simply cannot logically and coherently articulate facts and in formation in so many cases, against so many people.

Maybe its the fact that all you need to be a cop in this country is a highschool education or GED... maybe we need to start mandating two or four years of college. Heavy emphasis on classes that teach logic, critical thinking skills, with an emphasis on rhetorical modes, documentation skills, and communications.

This same thing happened during not only the sworn depositions, but in the trial involving myself and a co-worker who were both wrongfully accused by one one, not two, not three but four cops... resulting in both of us suing. Myself I sued three times and won all three times (two settlements and one verdict) for civil rights violations, unlawful search, destruction of property, unlawful detention and official acts misconduct.

In all three cases the officers involved lied under oath, on official reports and one lied during a sworn deposition. Their dash cam videos showed an entirely different story than their reports did. Even a video we obtained from a gas station parking lot surveillance cam showed a wildly different story from what the cops said in their official reports.

Twice they settled prior to trial, third case I won, they appealed and their appeal was immediately denied and the lower court’s verdict upheld.

In the first two incidents an officer quit and a second was fired for lying under oath. In the third incident the officer was arrested for crimes that were discovered due to another complaint that some else had filed against him a day or so before he violated my rights.

My co-worker who I crew with... she sued Metro for basically the same thing that I sued for.

The cops who were involved in her case were fired for lying and the city settled her suit as well.

In all these cases the Internal Affairs Detectives who testified said they believed the officers acted on a case of mistaken vehicle identity but that once they saw who we were and spoke to us that it should of been completely clear to the officers that they had stopped the wrong car(s).

Which, I can believe that in a single case... but three and four times?

After this I began search the net and what I found truly opened my eyes. I found that stuff like this happens in every state many, many times a day and that the cops in this country commit far worse crimes against society as well as the public.

So you can see why my faith in the police in this country has been quashed and I now trust the guy stocking shelves at Wal-mart to do the right thing 1,000 times more than I do the cops... and your public display of how you, a cop, interprets then tries in vain to articulate facts shows us just how those who populate the law enforcement community are either so far out of touch they have no clue what they are doing. Or they are so stupid they have no clue what they are doing... and option either is completely unacceptable.

I wasn't thinking along the lines of punishing the cat.

Squirrel fattened cat and dumplings might be kind of tasty!

You just keep on projecting. I caught you in a bold faced lie, now you are just pretending that it didn’t happen. You LIED about the number of police, you lied about what I said to you, you lied about the data, now you just want to brush it aside like it didn’t happen.

Frankly, I don’t believe your persecution nonsense.

Prove your story. Show me deposition transcripts, the docket number for your trials, and the appellate decision that you pretend exists.

If there really was an appellate decision, you should be able to link to it quite easily. Until you do so, you will remain a liar, and not other conversation will be forthcoming, other than a continued request for you to prove your assertions.

Police officers responding to calls DO NOT always run code.

Weaving in and out of traffic with no warning lights or sirens is good cause for the county to be sued into oblivion when one of these jackasses causes a wreck, which is why they now run code here (at minimum, lights). They've been sued in the past.

If that squirrel was occasionally being fed by a human, it would explain the situation as much as the possibility of the animal having rabies.

That's exactly what it was. That squirrel wasn't acting "aggressive", it was acting overly friendly. I'd have simply picked it up then relocated it to a more wooded area or big tree.........

been there, done that and still alive to tell about it. Of course I have scars all over my body due to the battles I've had to put up with but survived them all with not one case of rabies.

I am pretty sure that there has never been a case of rabies transmitted to a human from a squirrel.

I agree with you especially because the animal would have to contract the disease from the bite of another rabid animal. And given the size of the squirrel, it would most likely end up as dinner rather than a victim of rabies........

A google search will confirm your statement........

Why are you “pretty sure that there has never been a case of rabies transmitted to a human from a squirrel”? Do you documentation?

Do a google search on squirrels with rabies and you will find that he is indeed correct............

There’s always that rarest of all events - a rabid squirrel - to ruin one’s day.

I know what you mean. I totalled my car when I ran into a rhinocerous last May.......now who would have thought that a rhinocerous would have been walking around in S.E. Michigan, let alone in my neighborhood....especially in May when they are thought to be hibernating.....
