With 8.8 percent unemployment across the country and more than 8 million people claiming unemployment benefits, one California congresswoman wants people to know theyre not the only ones facing financial hardship. Who else might be? The lawmaker herself.
In an appearance on MSNBC Thursday, Democratic California Rep. Linda Sánchez talked about the downsides of a federal government shutdown. Some lawmakers, to the seriousness of the issue, have said they would forgo their paychecks in the event of that shutdown. Sanchez explained she just cant afford to go along with that idea.
I have to tell you that I live paycheck-to-paycheck, like most Americans, Sánchez said. Im still paying off my student loans. I have a 2-year-old son who I have to support, and I have to maintain residences on both coasts. Its very difficult for me to say, Hey, I can give up my paycheck, because the reality is, I have financial obligations that I have to meet on a month-to-month basis that doesnt make it possible for me.

“...Im still paying off my student loans....”
Which particular sector of basket weaving did she major in?
Perhaps she got a degree in “community service”.
She earned her BA in Spanish in 1991 at the University of California, Berkeley and her Juris Doctor degree in 1995 at the UCLA School of Law
Sánchez is married to Jim Sullivan, whom she married on April 13, 2009, in the district office of Congressman John B. Larson, who introduced the two about two years prior to the wedding.[9] The marriage is the second for Sanchez, and Sullivan has three children from a previous marriage.[10] On May 13, 2009, she became the 8th woman to have given birth while serving in Congress when she gave birth to her first son, Joaquin Sánchez Sullivan.[11]
“AFAIK she’s married. Doesn’t her hubby bring in any income? I would think that being a congress critter’s spouse is a gateway to a high paying job in DC, like Linda Daschle.”
We have a commie congressman Filner in California. His wife is on his campaign staff and gets paid a ton of money from leftover campaign “contributions.” He always gets more than enough “contributions” to win re-election to his safe seat.

I don’t think she is as poor as she claims but, this can be a real problem to many in congress. The wealthy congressmen don’t need a paycheck to get by and can use it as leverage against those who don’t. Vote my way to get your paycheck. If you believe people like Joe the plumber should be able to run for congress you must also understand that losing money or even delayed payment can cause hardships. Some suffer in less dramatic and public ways than others. I think we need to build a dormitory that can be used my elected officials while in Washington. That way the don’t need to maintain a residence in their elected district and in Washington.
Then she certainly ought to know what the average American has to put up due to high taxes because of the Democrats’ excessive spending, social programs, earmarks, etc.
B-1 Bob didn’t have this problem.
Last time I checked, that's a lucrative career...especially when your spouse is in the Congress.
Now she knows how I feel about a bankrupt country ... that I support with my taxes. I’m going to take it in the neck, so should she. Go work at McDonalds if you can’t handle the pay in DC.
She’s making nearly 200 G’s, and that’s just the reported income, so that maker her just a step away from being wealthy under the obama tax scam. If you throw in all the gifts and bribes, she’s filthy rich. Mostly filthy.
If she can’t make it, won’t this be a teachable moment for her, give her a little perspective on real people’s lives and the effects of endless taxes?
Nah. She’s a liberal.
As another Californian, I could live for years on that amount. It's no wonder she votes the way she does! Her own personal finances must be a mess. One more reason to VOTE HER OUT.
