SPRINGFIELD - School bus drivers in Springfield said they are tired of being harassed and enduring violence from students all while they are just trying to do their job, according to a report by CBS-3.
School bus drivers joined school officials at a meeting Tuesday at the M. Marcus Kiley Middle School to try to work out a solution to the decades-old problem of unruly students.
June Dakin, a long-time school bus driver, told reporters that young students from M. Marcus Kiley Middle School are some of the worst offenders and that the school's administration hasn't taken any action to remedy the ongoing problems.
She said that verbal abuse is the central problem but also cited incidents where she said one driver had a coat thrown over his head while driving and another had her seatbelt tightened around her from behind.
Dakin told reporters there have been several issues a week for months on end and no action has been taken to protect the drivers or innocent students on the buses.
School committee member Antonette Pepe said that she once dropped a stack of 300 bus-related complaints on Superintendent Alan Ingram's desk, but no decisive action was ever taken, according to CBS-3.

Time for a three strikes rule, or less. Do something stupid, at a minimum bus privileges are revoked for 1 year, with suspension from school, possible expulsion and criminal charges too.
Also go after any entitlement the parents may be receiving.
Taser them.
I always wondered why school busses have no seatbelts when at least here in MA the rest of us are forced to use them.
Maybe if these little rugrat punks were strapped down this problem would not be as bad.
Judging by what they do to drivers, and having first hand experience driving in parts of said city, they would find ways to use them as weapons.
Let the offenders walk to school. It may help get their minds right.
We had a crazy kid on the school bus once. The bus driver put him out on the street, 15 miles from his home. Never had issues with that kid again.

Springfield?
Get out, Get out NOW!
Come to Norwood, It’s still sort of, kind of cheap.
And ok i guess.
Did they ask Otto?
Funny, I used to live in Walpole (not Cedar Junction), and I worked at the “Mug N’ Muffin” in Norwood as a short order chef. Ahhhh, good times.
I live in Ware, it is bad enough here, but I do not work in or go to Springfield without my gun.
Is this the wonderful “socialization” homeschoolers are missing? ( Just wondering.)
No way, seventh, we’re working for number one. Don’t worry though we’re armed to the teeth.
Springfield is rough territory.
If you go out farther i.e. Wilbraham or Southwick maybe it won't suck so bad....
No mention of the Somali Influx, last time I was their ( November) I got an earful from my aunts and uncle about the latest immigrants...
One more thing... We were all told to vote for the millage for the new High School in 16 acres in the 80's that Commerce was falling apart and we need this, we can't teach. Lot of good all that physical plant did, they are not turning out the kids they did in the 50's and 60's that is for sure...
My favorite Springfield memory, on one of my rare trips into that city, was watching a Hispanic female double park in front of a welfare office, in a Escalade with spinners, exit a few minutes later holding what I presume was a check, while talking on some sort of smart phone, hop in ans speed off nearly mowing down a pedestrian in a cross walk.
