I can't say I ever cared much for Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop". Particularly after seeing Bill & Hillary, along with wooden Al Gore, uh, dancing to it at their second Inaugural, and having one of the over-paid talking heads of the time gushing, "this administration has rhythm".
No, they didn't have rhythm. They couldn't dance a lick. And that's not a "dance" tune, anyway.
On a more positive note; The Street Soul guys in England doing "I don't want to know about evil" (I only want to know about life) was excellent. A highlight of the thread IMO.
But there was one old "don't" that seems to have been left out, and it was a hit back in it's day. Tragically, the singer/writer died in a plane crash.
Jim Croce You Don't Mess Around With Jim SLIM!
I guess these lyrics are not as unforgettable as they once seemed.
You don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim."
I often wonder what guys like him could have yet come up, if he had lived.
Nothing against Mr. Croce, I was a fan. But I miss Stevie Ray so much more.
One more obscure "don't", found in a song lyric (which I at one time had a fine vinyl pressing of, and find modern digital versions miss much of the depth & warmth of sound that could be found in the better analog pressing, back in the days when good phonograph needles were actually available).
It came to mind by Hoodat posting "don't kill the whales". Here's a partial lyric of a much better anti-whaling song, in that had wider appeal. It was beautiful in it's time, albeit repetitious;
I made it a point to omit the Fleetwood Mac song because of the Dem convention. The song they should have played instead was Little Lies.
And here's one more - an oldie AND a goodie.
