BTDT... went to the county for an appeal. They were the rudest, most arrogant jerks. But I did get a reduction. Then I told them that they were the rudest, most arrogant public workers that I had ever talked with.
You can in Salt Lake County. We've successfully protested ours the last two years. This last year was particularly outrageous. They tried to claim our house had increased in value by over $150K. In a single year, in this housing market. Yeah, right. I think they were trying to catch a lot of people who are seriously underwater, and these folks would be so relieved to see their property values increase they wouldn't mind being soaked by the government. Not us, we're not underwater, and we're not selling for years, so we protested.
They get you coming and going. Try to refinance and your house won’t appraise. But it will still be appraised higher than it is on the tax roles.
I’ll have to admit my taxes have decreased over the past two years. In an “up” market my payments would have gone up. Instead they stayed the same and I actually got a $32 refund this year.
But I won’t be surprised when the rate is increased to pay for all the new schools that were built over the past few years.
The taxes are figured into the rental payment.
Government policy was to guaranty loans to minorities and others that could not afford the housing they were buying. The guaranteed loans were bundled and sold to investors. When the dead beats quit paying there were billions in guaranteed loans and the economy collapsed. We are in this collapse now. The result is to strip you of all your equity in your home and impose insane debt and hyper inflation through the endless printing of money for crap like Libya (UN control of the world). The starting reason for the collapse was bad loans to dead beats guaranteed by the government,a policy called “affordable housing”. That is a fact.
when property taxes increase, does your rent go up??? no, it does not....my taxes went up last increase 750 bucks a year? the renters did not pay an additional 62.50 per month, yet i had to....i pay more in taxes annually than the renters in our area pay in rent annually....renters have no skin in the game, therefore they should not be allowed to vote on property issues.....period
Thanks for the post. I’ll be sure to get all my ducks in a row and go in loaded for bear....so to speak.
I suggested that treating my home equally against those was not correct, but ended up losing the battle.
Hopefully, you can make another protest and prevail. Good luck if you do. They may be digging their heels in with more and more homeowners taking this route.
The current one's not over yet!
“the non property owners, who have no skin in the game, approve the increase”
That would only be true if you assume renters are too stupid to realize any tax increases will be added to their rents. Oh, wait ...
