Iran threatens Saudi Arabia with 'military intervention'
Military Advisor to Iranian spiritual leader Yahya Rahim Safavi accused Saudi Arabia of "suppression of popular unrest in Bahrain" and warned in this regard has of "possible armed intervention" in the affairs of the Saudi kingdom, said the Qatari TV channel Al-Jazeera.
It is to be recalled that a Shia rebellion began on 14 February in Bahrain with a demand for so-called "political reforms", in order to transfer power to Shiites and change the regime's Sunni dynasty which ruled the country for 18 centuries.
The Shiites, who moved to Bahrain in the past few decades, now account for 75% of the population. The state of emergency, imposed for a period of 3 months, is operation in Bahrain since 15 February. Saudi Arabia sent troops in Bahrain mid-March to restore order, which prompted criticism from Iran. In response, Saudi Arabia accused Iran of unceremoniously interference in internal affairs of Arab countries in the Persian Gulf.
