Michele Bachmann steals the show in Iowa
Politico ^ | 26 Mar 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

DES MOINES, Iowa — Michele Bachmann served up red meat to the crowd at the Iowa conservative principles conference Saturday, slamming President Barack Obama as a Jimmy Carter retread, dissing the Mitch Daniels "truce" call for social issues, and saying she wants a "waiver" from the last two years of White House leadership. Talking loudly and waving her hands, a pumped Bachmann used a slide presentation of various numbers — the national debt, the cost of a gallon of gas two years ago the day before Obama took office, the corporate tax rate — to make her points and pull the crowd in.

Suggesting that Iowa caucus voters had the power to halt Obama, Bachmann wrapped up her speech by asking, "Are you in? are you in for 2012?"

"I agree with you!" she said as the crowd cheered, and added, "I'm in!"

The Minnesota firebrand gave the best-received speech of the potential 2012 hopefuls appearance at Rep. Steve King's conference and the crowd wildly applauded her brand of populism. It was a reminder that while Bachmann has been criticized for miscues in her public statements, there is a space for her to fill in the Iowa caucuses should she decide to jump into the race for the White House.

She called for a "fair tax" and said that the "current United States tax code is a weapon of mass destruction."

I like this about Bachmann

"She called for a "fair tax" and said that the "current United States tax code is a weapon of mass destruction."

I dont know what Boehnners idea is .. if he is trying to appear as a reasonable statesman or just not make waves.

I think he needs to start amping up his tone though.

Precisely and this is why she is appealing as a POTUS to the independent voters.

My field of dreams: Michele Bachmann. Sarah Palin. Herman Cain. Paul Ryan.

Perfect!

If he ran we would get our country back. Congress and senate need cleaned up, given huge paycuts and downsized. How much staff does one rep really need? No more special interests.
Unless this is cleaned up nothing will really change.

Michelle is AWESOME! I really hope she runs, if for no other reason than to steer the other candidates hard right.

Palin obviously is not a “Congress person”.

I think having two females running for Pres and VP could be a problem for some people. Heck, there was a guy a few weeks back on FR who said Palin could not win because she’s female.

Personally, gender or race mean nothing to me. It’s the principles and quality of the candidate that is all that should count. However, just as there will always e racial bigots there will be gender bigots.

That aside, I would love to see two strong women with Tea Party conservative principle, and who are not afraid to effectively communicate who they are, win. Can you imagine the liberal talking heads having to deal with this? Talk about getting the popcorn ready. Man, that would be something.

Michelle BUMP.

Solidly conservative, you know where she stands, and she has no fear.

What’s not to like?

When did the Ambassador to the UN get the ability to make the UN leave or even decide whether we should be in it?

Nope, you have it backwards: Bachman is the better candidate by far. She’s far more articulate and not nearly as gaffe-prone as Palin is.

Palin would be good as the head of RNC and that’s as far as she should go in politics. She reminds me of a cheerleader.

Bachman is the real thing: A true stateswoman.
