I am talking about lying, in the sense of “deliberately uttering or causing to be uttered statements known to be false for the purpose of deceving the listener or reader, or causing visual media to be edited or falsified in such a way as to deceive the viewer.”
Sure there was confusion. But even more significantly there has been and continues to be a staggering volume of lying.
