I read that too but it never got into the MSM. There's an airport in Benghazi that may also have had some Libyan military planes but I'm guessing. Benghzi’s a port so it may have naval craft. I know when the revolt started there were pockets of pro-Qaadafi security people in Benghzi fighting off the rebels with antiaircraft guns. Egypt is supposedly smuggling weapons into the rebels. They may have supplied them with Stingers or something more sophisticated than SA-14’s or whatever they've been using out in the desert without much luck.
I've been thinking about the Egyptians. IIRC, time was, maybe before Khaddafi's time when Naser was in charge in Egypt, he had some designs on the Cyrenaican region of Libya. If I was in charge of the Egyptian military right now, I'd find it hard not to think of how popular I'd be to take a nice drive over to Brenghazi with some of those M1A2's I have.
This is the most bizzarre Cluster-F ever!
If it wasn’t so serious, it would make one helll-of-a Mel Brooks movie!
Its odd that in the video that you couldn’t see a missile trail or explosions of AA artillery or tracer fire. I suspect that this jet may have just lost it engine when it went down. It looks like a video I’ve seen of an F-14 about to go supersonic when one of its engines had a catistrophic failure.
