A former Lebanese minister apologised on Wednesday for a slur against Saudi women that sparked angry protests among Sunnis and instead lashed out at Riyadh for the killing of women in Bahrain.
"It was a wrong thing to say and I apologise for it," said Wiam Wahhab, who last week slammed Saudi Arabia for dressing its women in "trash bags," in reference to the black niqab of ultra-conservative Islam.
"However, what about ... Saudi Arabia's injuring and killing of veiled Bahraini women?" added Wahhab, a Druze former minister who is close to Saudi Arabia's regional rival Syria...
Lebanon's second largest city is considered the stronghold of the country's Sunni Muslim community. It is also home to a minority Alawite community which is loyal to Syria.
A radical Islamist group on Wednesday offered a bounty for Wahhab's murder over his "Zionist" comments.
"We in the Sinam al-Islam Network declare, loud enough to shock the ears, our announcement of an award of $3,500 or its equivalent in gold or cash for those who cut off the head of this despicable one," read the movement's statement as translated by the SITE monitoring group.

This is a Druze, from a pro-Syrian Alawite area of Lebanon, criticizing the Saudis in a way that pertains to the Iranian-incited civil war in Bahrain. What a surprise.

Saudis are just as bad as the Lebanese, the Iranians & the rest of them... as if encasing someone in a ‘chador’ (literally means ‘tent’ in Persian & not Perso-Arabic) is better than *forcing* women to wear a headscraf/long coats & measuring how many inches of their wrist is exposed before they are dragged off to be penalised & raped in prisons by psychos, who are often Arab, Arabized & Islamicized ..*expletive deleted*..
People like that Lebanese chap should worry more about Hezbollah in Lebanon. Hope Qatar is on stand by for 2018 or was it 2022 World Cup? Apparently, they wanted to show us how “wonderful” the ME is. No doubt, we’ve seen plenty recently in wonderment!
Btw, Tank Tops & Shorts are not allowed in Iran for men either; not even in Kish Island (Iran).
