“what in the hell would some EU Bureaucratic Pope know about it?”

From what I’ve read France supplied the MOX fuel for reactor 3. They also use MOX fuel in some of their reactors. EU officials should therefore be well aware of the long term liabilities from a loss of containment and burning fuel rods which contain 9% plutonium.

There’s also substantial plutonium in the spent rods which are catching fire repeatedly. The burning of fuel rods vaporizes plutonium which is going out to sea on the wind making containment and cleanup impossible.

Half life of plutonium isotopes range from 88 - 370,000 years so yes, just about everyone has cause for criticism of the cooling and containment efforts.

Japan has asked the US military repeatedly for assistance in what is clearly a potential global threat (ocean circulation of released plutonium). The EU official is saying “you’ve screwed up, stop the coverup and do more.”

And what has the US response been on this?

By "what would he know about it?" I meant what would he know about "the situation" more than the Japanese would, not the "it" being "the bear shlt." The title of the article is about his insight on "the situation being out of control" not the composition of the rods. Some guy in the EU doesn't know more than TEPCO about the composition of the rods TEPCO loaded into TEPCO's reactor....
