Important Questions.

I want to get this right. I understand that the Potassium Iodide tablets are used to saturate the thyroid with Iodine to prevent it from taking up radioactive iodine which may or may not materialize in any particular geographical area.

  1. Is KI the only type of Iodine suitable for this purpose? I understand it has potential serious side effects. I have a bottle of Iodine Gluconate, a dietary mineral supplement produced by Oligocan. Recommended dose is one teaspoon/day (ordinary circumstances).

  2. Will this substance work as well as KI? It seems to be a much safer alternative should anyone need to take prophylactic precautions.

  3. How much to take?

I know you can use liquid iodide. Many of us have that in our medicine cabinets.

You don’t drink it! You paint some on your skin. It gets absorbed.

You can google appropriate amounts for people - babies use less than adults, obviously.

Another good source of iodine is seaweed. Go to a store and buy some dried seaweed. The kind used for suchi is generally available, but other types are also sold. Eat as much of that as you wish.
